ACTIVITY 1

What is metacognition?

- metacognition is a way to think about one’s learning it is thinking about thinking. It


involves knowing when you know, knowing you don’t know, and knowing what to do when you
don’t know. In simpler terms, it tackles self-monitoring and adjusting your own pace on your
learning process. It is a way to enhance one’s thinking process especially for students who want
to learn. It also tackles the aspect of school and life, and it involves self-reflection on one’s
current disposition, future goals, potentials, and such in his/her journey in learning. The strength
and weaknesses of a learner are ventured and are put into good use so that the learner can
maximize its potential. The concept of metacognition is a very essential skill for both learning
and life and is very important to be introduced and be taught to learners/students.

Give metacognitive strategies. Give an example of a situation for each strategy.

-Examples of metacognitive strategies are self-questioning you could ask your self is this
the best way to carry out this task? Or How could I do better next time? Another strategy is
Meditation this time your objective is to clear your mind and relax a situation would be inhaling
and exhaling while calming yourself. Be aware of your self and the surroundings, and focus on
having an inner speech, then reach a calm and focus mind to continue learning. Another Strategy
is Reflection, it is when you pause for a moment and think about the task, recycle and recollect
things on how to improve. A given situation for this strategy is when you have finished a tasked
and then you reflect on how to improve or plan the next task, with a focus on improving weak
points you had on the past. Another strategy is Awareness of your Strength and Weaknesses.
through looking at yourself and making a genuine assessment of your weaknesses can you
achieve self-improvement. A situation would be when you know your strength lies on your
writing and your weaknesses is on communication, knowing these facts you can adjust and try to
improve your communication so that you lessen the problems you may encounter in regards to
your weakness at communicating.

What are the Learner-Centered Psychological Principles (LCP)?

"Learner centered Psychological Principles " is the perspective that emphasis on


individual students - their heredity, encounters, viewpoints, foundations, gifts, interests, limits,
and needs- with a focus on leaning the best available knowledge about learning and how it
occurs and about teaching practices. It is effective on promoting the highest level of motivation.
In summary it helps develops the skill that can be at good use in the future for the learner.
Psychologists, in collaboration with educators, can help decide how best to apply sound
psychological principles in the redesign of America's schools. A new and exciting vision of
schooling, and psychology's role in this vision, can then emerge.
