Guiding Questions for Student Self Report

Student name: Yuli Yessy Richa Rachmawati

1. School: General Information and Academic


Administration
After observation, please write a report about school general
information and its academic administration according to topics as
follows:
1.1 School academic and development plan
Suratpittaya School is one on favorite school that known
in Suratthani, North Thailand. This school has a jargon “To
be number one” it’s kind of hope that Suratpittaya school
will always be number one in everything especially in soft
skill because this school also known as the creative school
that has created some artist in sport. There are 2 special
program in Suratpittaya School. The first program is MLP
(Multi language program) which the students learn more
about Chinese language, English and Thai Language itself.
The second is EST (English Science Technology). This
school consists of 6 building with 10 teachers room and a
number of classes which every class is filled with a
projector, LCD, microphone also interactive board and this
school also facilitated with sports place, hall, meeting point
and the important one this school has the international
ASEAN library. All of Suratpittaya School students have to
arrived at the school at 07.20 before begining the morning

assembly at 07.35 in the morning, and everyday this school
doing morning assembly from 07.35 - 08.20 so after that
the students enter the class and get ready to study. The time
of teaching learning process in this school is about 55
minutes each lesson and the students study about 7 lesson
in a day. For the development plan this school using their
own form of lesson plan and it used MPPP (Motivation
Presentation Practice Production) and mostly the teachers
only focus on the hand book of the lesson during teaching
and didn’t make any development for the materials.

1.2 Teaching system


Teaching system in Suratpittaya school is mostly teachers
center and grammar teaching method, so after finishing
explanation usually the teachers asks the students to do the
exercises and then give them homework as the production
stage.

1.3 Materials and other learning sources


For the materials, the teachers in Suratpittaya that teach
Englis in M4 using the english book Mega Goal 4 from
MC Graw Hill education and they only focus on that book.

1.4 Measurement and evaluation system


The measurement and evaluation system is summative
assessment that the teacher asked the students to collect all
their exercises and homeworks into edmodo application.

1.5 Curriculum
All of the schools in Thailand using the curriculum from
the government. However, the teachers in Suratpittaya
School have to make their own lesson plan but still
according to the national curriculum.

1.6 Teaching plan (of your major)

I have only one day for observation, eventhough I thought
that it’s very limit time for me to know how the class and
students condition there but that kind of challenge for me
to improve my teaching skill during I teach in this school,
then I was decided to teach for three class with 9 times
teaching with the level of fundamental english and the skill
that I taught are speaking and writing, then I have to make
three lesson plan which talk about comparative adjectives,
superlative adjectives and integrated adjectives and I
taught those material for 55 minutes each meeting.

2. Pedagogical Contents
After observation, please write a report on school pedagogical
contents (where you were placed for practicum 2) according to
topics as follows:
1.1 Teaching methods
The teaching method that used is teacher’s center in every
meeting or usually during doing the exercises the teacher
try to guide the students but the teacher less motivate the
students to be more active and mostly the students are
seems like they feel shy and unconfident to be active in
english class.

1.2 Using materials and innovation


Actually, the teachers in Suratpittaya school are not really
pay attention to the lesson plan because they already
known the national curriculum and they got the hand book
then they only focused on that thing for their teaching. But
sometimes they used to adapt the exercise from cambridge
or using some pictures from google image.

1.3 Sources of learning and technology


For the source of learning the teacher only focused on the
english hand book but during teaching the teacher used
power point as the media and the technology that used is
such Edmodo, the teacher used edmodo to assess the
students from all their exercises and homeworks.

1.4 Authentic assessment
The teachers use authentic assessment. Authentic
assessment is the assessment which aims to evaluate
students' abilities in real world contexts. Such as the
teacher asks the students to write about their family, about
themselves, friends, or anything aroung their daily life.

3. Teaching plan
After observation, please write a report about school teaching
plan according to topics as follows:

1.1 Curriculum analysis


After knowing the national curriculum in Thailand,
actually foreign language in Thailand is Important because
most of Thai students are only focused to their mother
tongue language that’s why now the curriculum is adding
become there is Chinese language and improving English
language of the students. So, that’s why the students
learning process should reach the learning outcome to
make sure that all the students are understand the material
well.

1.2 Teaching plan related to your major


Teaching plan that I made for my major is using MPPP
(Motivation, Presentation, Practice and Production) which
is at the beginning of the lesson warming up as students
memory recall for their last material with an authentic
media such as a picture or anything around the class or
environment and then connect it to the new material then
enter to the presentation stage which I explained the
material for that day. In the practice stage usually I gave
them more activity even it is individual and then grouping
them to do the exercises to check their understanding at
least 3 exercises and if they had success their exercises
I gave them some homework by using worksheet as the
production stage, because the time for learning in Thailand
is too limit that’s why I always gave them homework.

4. Observation on teacher(s)
After observing and studying about teacher(s), please write a
report on following topics:
1.1 Planning for teaching
The teacher set the planning for teaching using power point
not lesson plan, and then the teacher in English class for
M4 Mr. Thanisorm said he did not enjoy using lesson plan
and more enchanted using power point which is in the first
slide he will tell the students what is the learning objective,
learning outcome and all the materials that he will teach to
his students and he always have a good preparation for his
teaching.

1.2 Preparing lessons and materials


Teacher prepare lessons and materials before starting
learning activities. Lesson and materials delivered through
the media used such as computers (power point) ,
projectors and worksheets for student assignments.

1.3 Teaching in class


The way of the teacher delivered the material is good as
well and very clear because he knew the ability of the
students than he explain slowly or repeat his explanation to
make sure that the students are really understand the
material well. But the teacher’s teaching are really teacher
center and then even though the students understand the
material the can’t express in in a kind like a collaborative
class, group work etc. Even the teacher gave the students
assignment it must be an individual work and just filling
the exercises on the slide inductively.

1.4 Measurement and Evaluation


For measurement and Evaluation the teacher provided
Edmodo for the students to collect all their assignment

there and then the teacher can measure and evaluate the
students understanding.

5. Teaching practice
For teaching practice, please have to write a teaching plan and
consult with teacher (of your teaching subject). Then students will be
assigned to teach in class and reflect on their teaching after class.
Please write a report on the teaching practice according to topics as
follows:
1.1 Procedures of teaching

- Lead in (warming up): showing pictures about some
artist and give the students a guide questions and then
after that ask the comparison between those artist (10
minutes)
- Presentation: explaining about adjectives, adjective
words and then about comparison and its examples,
during explanation I asked the students to give an
example too to check their understanding. (20 minutes)
- Practice : I asked them to work in group and gave then
some picture card so every member of group have to
speak up to compare those picture, and then ask them to
fill the exercises by using comparative adjectives. (10
minutes)
- Production: Every students got a paper and then they
have to write comparative adjective by the topic that I
gave them about (family, animals, sports) with guided
example of paragraph from me (15 minutes)

- Lead in (warming up): showing the students a video
about comparative adjectives as they recall the lesson
before. (5 minutes)
- Presentation: explaining what is superlative adjectives
and it examples (20 minutes)
- Practice: 3 exercises for this material, I gave them name
of country in he world and ask them to described it by
using superlative adjectives, filling the blank exercises

by using superlatives adjective and last is work in pairs
to make a mini conversation which include superlative
adjectives at least 3 superlative adjectives (guided with
a conversation example from me) (15 minutes)
- Production: Role play, the students have to role play the
mini conversation that they already make. (15 minutes)

- Lead in (warming up): I asked the students to compare
anything around them by using comparative adjectives
or superlative adjectives.(10 minutes)
- Presentation: explain the different between superlative
and comparative adjectives (15 minutes)
- Practices: divide the students into 4 groups and give the
students jumbled words about some sentences
comparative and superlative adjectives which they have
to arrange and after that give the superlative boards and
dice so the students have to play snake and ladder which
inside the superlative board games are some topic to
speak such as : the most frightened animals, the best
book, the best experience and the students who stop
their dice on what topic have 30 seconds to speak up if
they stop talking before 30 seconds or did not speak
clearly their group must be loser.
- Production: Give the students homework to write a
paragraph no longer than 10 line which includes 4
comparative adjectives and 4 superlative adjectives.

1.2 Time management and organizing activities


I think the time management is running as well because
my mentor always reminds me if the time is almost up so I

can manage it and for the activities, usually then I repeat it
and slowly the students will understand and if some of the
still not understand my mentor will say it in Thai language
and everything will be run well.

1.3 Problem-solving
I think there is no any significant problem during my
teaching, its only sometime I have to repeat my explanation
and instruction to make the students understand and I used
body language mostly to make the students understand.

6. Summary and Suggestions


Students summarize about what you had done during your
Practicum 2 according to topics as follows:

1.1 Purposes of practicum 2


The purpose of practicum 2 is to prepare my self as a
teacher students that will be a real teacher in the future. So
I learned much about how to be a good teacher, how to
understand the students and the important is how to make
the students understand your material

1.2 Procedures of practicum 2


Before joining this program, I was selected by using
selection from my major and university. So, since my
arrival in Thailand I meet my new friends from 10
different universities and everyday we go to the school to
teach but before that, I always set my lesson plan and give
it to my mentor before teaching so he gave me feedback if
there are any mistakes on my lesson plan. I joined any
activities in the school such as sport, scout, ASEAN day,
English teacher meeting and also teaching of course. So
far, I am able to join all the procedures of this practicum
even from the school, SEAMEO and my mentor and I
think all procedures in this program are good and should
be continued.

1.3 Outcomes of practicum 2

The outcome in the practicum 2 is I know about how the
curriculum in Thailand, the students in Thailand and the
teacher also living in Thai people environment, and able
to explain Indonesia for my student, its really kind of
pleasure and proud for me to be part of this program to
have a chance to teach in Thailand that I never imagine
before. It was really exciting, challenging and
unforgettable experience.

1.4 Suggestions for future improvement


The suggestion for my future improvement, the time
allocation of the program must be more clear so then there
is no any miscommunication about the date of this
program will begin and end. The coordinators and
SEAMEO also have to give the brief explanation before
about this program so I hope the information won’t be a
short time as yesterday for better preparation for the
participants.
