Summary of Observation Process and Experience

I used a walkthrough and informal observation process for teacher evaluation found in

the Ohio teacher evaluation system. This included a general form that highlighted specific

teaching elements that are not exhaustive but are likely to be encountered in a classroom

observation. These elements include things such as differentiation, communication strategies for

needs-based, differentiated learning goals, questioning techniques, effective use of instructional

time, Information presented in multiple formats, Teacher has both collaborative and whole class

learning opportunities (Walkthroughs/Informal Observations: Overview and Resources Ohio

Teacher Evaluation System 2.0, n.d.).

I set up an informal walkthrough ahead of time with two teachers and spent

approximately 10 minutes with each one. I made written observations using the general form

from the teacher evaluation system. Following each observation, I emailed the teacher with my

notes and a scanned copy of the informal walkthrough.

PSEL (Professional Standards for Educational Leaders) Standard 6 and Implications for

Future Practice’

I was able to deliver actionable feedback about the instruction I experienced as well as

other professional practices through a valid teacher evaluation system that involved supervision

and evaluation that supports the development of teachers’ knowledge, skills, and practice

(National Policy Board for Educational Administration, 2015).

As I experienced each of the observations, I believe that they each carried out an

adjustment for my future professional dispositions because I felt as though I was experiencing

the process with them. I was a learning partner in the classroom experience. My feedback for the

teachers easily invited further conversations that will enrich our collegial friendships while also

challenging each other to our elevated level of expectations.
