Community Strategies

This week, I had the opportunity to collaborate with my principal as well as a board of

education member to discuss and explore various strategies administrators could implement to

maximize school resources. We exchanged ideas regarding the importance of being involved

with community events, engaging in community services, and partnering with outside

organizations. This included but was not limited to attending musical or sporting events,

participating in trash clean-ups, and connecting with businesses within the community. We

unanimously agreed that building relationships with community members created more

opportunities to collaborate and implement a culture of significance. The board member added

that he wanted to provide more value for students and families through an abundance of

resources. He believed that by increasing parent involvement, their children were more likely to

be successful. This included workshops, parent night events, and other training opportunities.

Ethical Strategies

One of the most important factors in our discussion was the ethical responsibilities of

school administrators in utilizing school resources in the best interest of students and the

community. My principal stated that administrators must be transparent with the budget and

spending, aligning the use of resources with the school’s area of needs, as well as ensuring are

never used for personal gains or benefits. Additionally, we emphasized the importance of

providing equity and access through the proper allocation of funding and supporting various

areas of the community.

PSEL Standards 2 and 8 and Implications for Future Practice

I plan on displaying PSEL Standard 2 - Ethics and Professional Norms in my future

practice by being an effective leader who acts professionally in personal conduct, ethically

spending school resources to benefit students and the community and building relationships with

colleagues. I will model this behavior to provide a moral compass for the school and promote

positive behavior for all stakeholders. I will also embody PSEL Standard 8 - Meaningful

Engagement of Families and Community by involving family members and local businesses in

building a community. By doing so, students will benefit as a result of additional resources and

support from beyond their classrooms. I will continue to develop and sustain partnerships with

others, involve myself in public work, and create opportunities for others to get involved.
