for topical cyclosporine, tacrolimus, rather than the oral version because cyclosporine is a very
potent immunosuppressive. I would hate to have to use it long term in an otherwise healthy dog. As
noted in the first response, feeding a novel protein also helps. Mars condition cleared up in several
weeks and has not recurred in about a year.

Three things right off the bat.

Remove grains from his diet. A novel protein food - RAW if you can is the best.

"Natural blend of fiber including Pumpkin Seed, Natural Anti-Inflammatories, and a Probiotic Source.

Ingredients: 100% Pure Beef Liver, Pumpkin Seed, Quercetin Dihyrdate, Apple Pectin Cellulose,
Bromelain 600 GDU/gram, Lactobacillus acidophilus How does Glandex® work?

Glandex works in multiple ways from the inside out to help keep your pet's anal glands healthy.
Glandex's unique fiber blend improves the consistency and regularity of your pet's stools by creating
firm and bulky stools which helps your pet to naturally empty their anal glands every time they
defecate. Glandex also contains natural anti-inflammatories (the Quercetin & Bromelain helps with
itching) to reduce the underlying inflammation and allergies that contribute to anal gland problems
and reduces anal gland irritation. Maintaining overall digestive health is a vital part of healthy anal
glands and that's why Glandex is formulated with a probiotic to maintain your pet's gastrointestinal
health and to boost your pet's immunity."

the herb triphala guggul (given orally), and laser therapy, along with an immune-balancing protocol.

desitin. As in the baby diaper rash creme. It won't heal infection, but it has been known
to heal up the tracks. Put it on a qtip and apply in and around the fistula twice daily.
Don't use in conjunction with other topicals.

One I did cryo surgery, the other I did cyclo. Both worked, tho when I had a minor
flareup the desitin did the trick. Its tough treating. What works for one may not work for

Nirgundi
Oil https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B01MZCY6QH/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?

(you may be able to get this in the UK)

It is made from the plant Vitex nigundo, which is bitter, pungent and astringent in taste.
Nirgundi is one of the best natural anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-biotic and an
excellent muscle relaxant. Its oil reduces congestion, inflammation and pain. There are
very few multifaceted herbs like Nirgundi. The oil heals the fistula and tones the area by
maintaining proper blood circulation.
Dose: Local application over the wounds with a cotton ball soaked in the oil twice daily.

sugardine twice a day. It something that we have used for years with livestock and it's
really amazing how well it works. It's easy to make since it's just sugar (we used
powdered sugar to get a smoother consistency) and Betadyne (provodone iodine) mixed
together. It worked great! The vet was really impressed with the results and our dog
completely healed.

I saw your post regarding the sugardine and wanted to reply. I do not have a german
shepherd, I have a black lab mixed dog who has 4 perianal fistulas and a swollen
abscessed area right below his tail. He was on prednisone and ciprofloxacin for four
weeks but it didn't help much. I have been using sugardine for about the last week and
the fistulas appear to be drying up, he no longer has any oozing puss or bloody fluid. I
started by using a syringe (without needle) filling the fistulas with the sugardine, now the
holes have decreased to where I can no longer inject the solution (so happy). I am now
packing about a spoonful of warmed sugardine onto he perianal region twice a day and
compressing it with a paper towel for about 10 minutes each time. This seems to be
working. I will update any changes and hopefully resolution. Thank you for the
information regarding sugardine as I had never heard about it. Hopefully this can help
others.

My GSD was diagnosed with perianal fistulas a month and a half ago. He's responded to
the medication quite well so far, he was on antibiotics for 2 weeks, 75mg of
novoprednisone and tacrolimus ointment 2x a day, he's now down to 50mg of
novoprednisone and tacrolimus once a day, tomorrow he starts 25mg for 4 weeks with
tacrolimus as needed.
My concern is that although all of the bleeding has stopped and he's eating like a horse,
the "holes" seem to be getting larger. I'm keeping the area clean so it looks really good
(I'm sure the steroids are helping with that also) but is that common for them to keep
getting larger? Will they ever stop?
