Cyber Safety Rules:
1. Never share personal information.
2. Don’t download alone.
3. Don’t respond to a bully.
4. Copy and paste (what was written by the bully), save it and print.
5. If you feel uncomfortable with what you see, tell an adult.

Every webpage on the internet has a unique web address or URL (Uniform Resource Locator):

The URL has three parts:


1. The URL starts with “http”, which is called the
Protocol, it is the set of rules that governs how
data is transmitted for the website.
2. Then the second part identifies the website
“www.google” which is called the Domain
Name.
3. The last part of the URL depends on the type of
the website and where is it located in the world
(the country); these are called Domain
Extensions.

The URL can end with many extensions here are some examples:

The place where we type the URL in a web browser is called Address Bar:

What is a hyperlink?
It is a word or picture when you click it, it opens a website or another webpage. It is usually underlined and
blue in color.

What is the internet?


It is the network of computers connected all around the world, it contains millions of websites made up of
millions of webpages which contains much information.

We use the internet to:


▪ Search for information.
▪ Connect with family and friends.
▪ Download media like images, audio, or videos.
▪ Play online games.
▪ Learn (attend online sessions).

How to search for information on the web?


To search for information, we use Search Engines which allows you to search easily for any type of
information by matching your keyword with its index.

First, you should type the keywords or sentence into the search bar or address bar.

Second, the search engine will use an algorithm to search the index to find a match for the typed keywords.

Finally, a list of webpages will be displayed.


Examples for search engines:

1-Google

2-Bing

3-Kiddle (For Kids): It filters the search results based on your age.

The reliability of information:


▪ To make sure the information you are searching for is Reliable and Accurate, you must get it form a
Trusted source which has a good Reputation.
▪ Wikipedia: Anyone in the world can change the information that is available on the website, you might
find information that is not accurate. It should not be a trusted source.

Filtering information:
▪ Using a search engine, the filtering options will help you find the most relevant results.
▪ Example: Using Google Chrome you can click ‘Tools’ button which will display a drop-down menu for
filtering the results based on your country called ‘Any Country’.

Saving a Webpage:

You might want to go back to the webpage you have visited, there are three ways to save the
webpages:

1. Save a link to the webpage: right click on the page you will see a menu,
click the ‘Save As’ option then choose the location for saving.
2. Printing a webpage: You may want to print a webpage to keep a copy
of it, right click then choose the ‘Print’ option form the menu.

3. Bookmark the page: To add a page to the bookmark list to easily visit it
again you can click on the ‘Star’ icon at the top right of the webpage, the click ‘Done’ in the box that
appears.
