Activity 2: Next, we are going to read carefully the article about “Solar Ovens” and take relevant
information about it.

TECHNOLOGY AT HOME

Solar ovens
People in some parts of the world can´t cook with gas or
electric ovens, but they can cook with the sun! Solar
ovens are really fantastic. They can cook food and heat
water. Here are two solar ovens.

The Bohmer oven

This oven is very basic. The designer is Jon Bohmer. aluminium
He´s Norwegian, but he lives in Kenya. You can´t buy
this oven, but you can make it. It has five parts: a glass
lid, a pot, two boxes (a small and a big box) and aluminum
or tin foil. The total price of the oven is about $7.
It’s really cheap! The maximum temperature is about 90°C.
This oven is very good for people in poor parts of
the world.

The HotPot oven

The HotPot oven is a basic design too. It has three parts: a


pot, a bowl and aluminum panels. The pot is in the glass
bowl. The maximum temperature is about 150°C.
It´s really hot! You can buy this oven online and in shops.
The price is about $100.
