Activity: Reflection on the four (4) philosophies and their implications to curriculum development.

During and after the discussion yesterday in advance curriculum development I have given the
chance to pause for a while and consider myself lucky. The reason was the subject given me a
chance to refresh and regain the knowledge that was given to us when we are in our college. It gives
me a chance to reflect that being a teacher you have to go outside the box or out of your comfort
zone.

And the things that give me a realization is knowing more about the philosophical foundations,
which give me another ideas on how to approach students for them to develop their attributes,
skills, and faith in humanity. But in every philosophy there are also limitations or weaknesses. So, it is
up to us teachers on how we are going to overcome and bridge the concept to the students. For me,
acquiring knowledge about idealism, naturalism, realism, and pragmatism gives me another chance
to be better for the children. After all they will always be the reason why I am giving myself an
opportunity for professional advancement.

I think the implications of philosophical foundation of curriculum is it helps determining the driving
purpose of education, as well as the specific roles of both the students and the teachers. While the
foundations propose to set goals for curriculum philosophy presents the manner of delivering the
curriculum through teachers. These philosophies helps the students to develop their capacity and
inclination to critical thinking.
