INTRODUCTION

Cybertronium is a company that offers multiple products both in the enterprise arena and in
the B2B SaaS space. Alot of well-known companies from all around the world seek
Cybertronium products so that it can manage their Microsoft BizTalk and Azure serverless
environments. It’s main and original building is currently being located at Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia. This company opened back in 2007 and since has been growing rapidly. Therefore,
the CEO of the company has decided to open up a new building in another location, which is
in Penang, by mid of 2022. Hence, we have been given the task to restructure the existing
network in the KL building and also create a new network diagram for the new building in
Penang. However, I, Ruben Gurung, will be focusing only on the second floor of the Kuala
Lumpur building for this individual assignment.

The objective of my task is to make sure that I create the proper or appropriate floor layout
and network diagram so that it gives the office environment. This will greatly help the
Cybertronium’s employees as it could increase their productivity. The second floor of Kuala
Lumpur building will have a development hub, conference room, server room, and a
technical assistance room. Since all these rooms are quite important, meaning there could be
potential risk of unauthorized access or employees stealing private information, an IoT device,
CCTV, is also implemented to monitor the room.

Before starting on this task, it is important to come up with assumptions as well so that we
can easily tackle them in the future. One assumption that I come up with is the possibility of
new end devices being added to the network, probably due to new employees. To solve this,
extra IP addresses is to be created and kept reserved for any new end devices that gets added
to the network.

Floor Plan(With Justification)

Cybertronium, Kuala Lumpur- Floor 2

Picture 1

Above is Picture 1 which shows the floor layout of the second floor of cybertronium. Many
considerations were taken when planning out the layout of the floor. As you can see, it has a
server room, development hub, conference room 1, conference room 2, technical assistance
room, and bathrooms for both gender. There is a stair somewhere in the middle which brings
you to the first floor of the building. Like I mentioned earlier, since there is a risk of
unauthorized access or employees stealing private information, CCTVs have been placed
carefully in every room and outside the rooms as well to prevent such malicious act from
happening.
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

To further understand my floor layout, I am going to show or guide you each of the
individual rooms to show what devices are inside. Firstly, I will start off with the server room.

Picture 2

Picture 2 is a server room. As displayed, there are 8 servers in the room with two computer.
The reason why I have included multiple servers is because it has the ability to provide
functionality to devices or programs called clients. Additionally, it also stores all the data that
is running in the network. Each of these servers also different. There are file server, print
server, application server, DNS server, mail server, and web server. (Server - Definition and
details, 2022) Since servers are way larger than desktops and also perform powerfully, there
require alot of cooling. For this reason, two air conditioner is being placed inside the server
room to cool the server, preventing it from over heating which could affect the performance
of the server.
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

Picture 3

Next is the development Hub room. This is the room where discussions are being done by the
employees to discuss any further improvements needed to the existing product or wants to
make a new product. That is why three table, each supporting 4-5 people, are put in the room.
This will allow the employees to sit together and have their thorough discussion. As for
working on the task that they have discussed, each employee has been given their own
desktop to work on the work they have been tasked with. It has been arranged in such a way
that all the eight employees can communicate to each other in case they need any help or
clarification from their colleague. Two CCTV has been added to monitor both side of the
room so that malicious act are not conducted by the employees. Additionally, it is a room
containing many important information about their products and so the CCTV will help with
unauthorized access as it captures their face making it easier for investigation. Other than that,
to make it a very office environment, two printers have been added so that it cuts down on the
queue time to print as there are 9 employees. The extra 1 employee that I haven’t mentioned
yet is the supervisor. His/her table can be seen at the bottom left side of the picture 3.
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

Air conditioner is also added to keep the room cool for the employees since they will be
working long hours. Couch too is added so that employee can sit and rest. Lastly, water
dispenser is included as well so that employees can quench their thirst when needed.

Picture 4

Next to the server room is the technical assistance room. A room where employees can go to
if they have any technical issue with their desktop or have any troubling connecting to the
network. Like other rooms, it has a couch, printer, and a CCTV. However, I included a fridge
as well in case employee’s or the technical assistant wants to place their cold beverage in
there. From picture 1, you will notice that the technical assistance room is located on top,
lined in the middle of all the other four rooms. The particular reason why I have located the
technical assistance room here is because of the fact that this room is primarily going to be
accessed by all employees in each department. Hence, placing the technical assistance room
closer to one department than the other room could mean unfair to other departments. Hence,
putting in the middle of all four rooms means it is equally accessed by all department quickly.
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

Picture 5

Picture 6

Both picture 5 and picture 6 above are same. They are two different rooms but the same
department. Only reason why we made two rooms for conference is in case other employees
from other department would want to use it. Both room has a table, 14 chairs, and a desktop
to project their presentation slides through the projector. CCTV is also included for monitor
and a water dispenser as well in case any of the employee will thirsty.
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

Picture 7

Lastly, we have the toilet for the employees. Since toilet is a place where our waste goes, I
have placed it somewhere far, on the bottom right of the floor. Sometimes some employees
may be disgusted by the idea of the toilet being so close to their room, probably due to smell
or hearing someone flushing when they are working.

Network Diagram

Justification- Network Diagram

The software that we used to draw out the network diagram is packet tracer. Packet tracer is
an app that allows actual simulation of how the network will be operating. It has lots of
features like visualizing networks, real-time mode and simulation mode, and also supports
majority of network protocols (What is Cisco Packet Tracer - GeeksforGeeks,
2020) .Therefore this app makes the perfect choice of use as our network diagram maker.
From picture 8, you can see that there are 4 switches, meaning there are 4 different
departments on the 2nd floor of the KL building. Each department is represented by their own
colors. The yellow box represents the server room, red box represents the development room,
green represents the technical assistance room, and orange and blue represents the conference
room. Each department has end devices connect to them which in total adds up to 45 hosts in
the network currently being connected. I am going to go a little bit more in-depth by
explaining each of the department in the network.

Server Room

Picture 10

Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

The first switch that I will be introducing is the server room. As you can see from the image
above, there are 8 servers, 2 computers, 2 printers, 2 voice over internet phone, 2 air
conditioners, and 1 webcam. They all are connected to the “Server room” switch. The
network ID for this switch network is 192.168.10.128. Furthermore, from the text box in the
picture above, you can see how many hosts are assigned an IP address which is 15. The other
two devices which is “IP Phone” doesn’t need to be manually addressed as it automatically
gets assigned. The IP address that are assigned to these devices ranges from 192.168.10.130 -
192.168.10.158. It uses a subnet mask of 255.255.255.224 with the default gateway being
192.168.10.129. The other extra IP addresses available is for reserve incase the network
expands.

Picture 11
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

Development Room

Picture 12

The second switch is the “Development Room”. In this room, there are 2 voice over internet
phone, one air conditioner, 9 computers, two webcam, and two printers. The network ID for
this switch network is 192.168.10.160. In total, that is 16 devices connected to a network. 14
of the devices are assigned with an IP address ranging from 192.168.10.162 - 192.168.10.190.
It uses a subnet mask of 255.255.255.224 with the default gateway being 192.168.10.161 .
The extra IP addresses available are for reserve in case the network expands.

Picture 13
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

Technical Assistance Room

Picture 14

The third switch is the “Technical Assistance Room”. The network ID for this switch
network is 192.168.10.192. There are one voice over internet phone, one computer, one air
conditioner, one webcam, and one printer. That is 5 in total using a IP address ranging from
192.168.10.194 - 192.168.10.222. It uses a subnet mask of 255.255.255.224 with the default
gateway being 192.168.10.193.

Picture 15
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

Conference Room

Picture 16

The last switch is the “Conference room”. The “Conference room” switch consists of two
rooms connected to it. The network ID for this switch network is 192.168.10.224. Conference
Room 1 and Conference Room 2. Each conference room has 1 voice over internet phone, 1
computer, one air conditioner, one webcam and one printer connected to the switch. It uses an
IP address ranging from 192.168.10.226 - 192.168.10.253. It uses a subnet mask of
255.255.255.224 with the default gateway being 192.168.10.225.

Picture 17
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

Router(KL2ndFloor)

Picture 18

Lastly we have the router which plays the major role in connecting all the 4 switches in the
network. This allows devices from one switch to communicate to another device in another
switch. This makes the ideal environment for an office. The router we chose here is a Router-
PT. This router allows us to modify the slots, inserting and removing the slots we want into
the router. Since 4 gigabit slot is need to connect to the 4 switches, I could modify the router
by inserting 4 “PT-ROUTER-NM-1CGE”. The cable used to connect is copper straight wire.
The same wire used to connect all the devices to their respective switches. Additionally, you
can see that in picture 18, there is a laptop connected to the router using the console cable.
This is done so that the laptop is used to configure the router.
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

The first configuration we made to the router was changing the router name to KL2ndFloor.
The picture below shows the configuration we made.

Picture 19

The second configuration we made was setting up a password. This is to prevent

unauthorized people from configuring the router settings. The password we put was
“cybertech1234”. For further security, encryption has also been inserted. It can been seen in
picture 20 below.

Picture 20
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

The third configuration is assigning the default gateway address of each switch to each of the
gigabit cable. As shown in picture 21.

Picture 21

You can see that each gigabitEthernet cable has been assigned an default gateway address
based on the switch they are being connected to.
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

Demonstration
Pinging from 1 device to another device in the same switch network.

Picture 22

This is server 5 pinging to server0, both server are connected to the same switch. The result is
successful. Server 5 is able to ping server 0.
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

Pinging from 1 device to another device in different switch network.

Picture 23

This is PC4 from “Conference Room” switch pinging to PC2 from “Technical Assistance
Room” switch. The result is successful. PC4 can ping PC2. The same check routine has been
done for all devices, and all of them can ping each other, regardless whether they are in the
same switch network or not.
Ruben Gurung CT043-3-1 TP062336

Conclusion
To sum up everything, the floor layout was made with lots of consideration, making sure that
it gives the feeling of an working environment and also that the employees face no issue in
their day to day work. As for the network diagram, it has been structured carefully, assuring
that the IP address assigned to the devices are not overlapped. Most importantly, I made
certain that there are enough extra IP addresses in reserve for future devices that gets
connected to the network.
