XIMB, with its 28 years of dedicated contribution to management education and
research, has had the privilege to become a University and retains its autonomous
status to evolve into Xavier University. XIMB continues to be our flagship B -School and
XIMB’s HR specialization program incorporating 28 years of shaping HR professionals
- the new Xavier School of Human Resources Management (XSHRM).
We empower our students with the knowledge, skills and long-term vision that
lead to innovation, service to society and growth, grooming visionary, competent,
committed, compassionate and value-based business leaders. Our curriculum has
been constantly redesigned to make it relevant to the needs of the rapidly changing

Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar inaugurated the Masters in Human
Resource Management programme in its Silver Jubilee year. Through this course, XIMB
has provided a veritable arena for cultivating the top HR managers of tomorrow guided
by its renowned faculty.
Designed by the industry leaders and veterans, the program gives the students a holistic
exposure through coursesin finance, operations, marketing and strategy taught with
an HR orientation along with specialized courses in Human Resource Management.  All
these help to develop highly competent human resource professionals who have
imbibed the requisite knowledge, skills and experience essential for managing the

Programme: The Business
Management programme is
the flagship programme of
Xaviers Institute of Management,

understanding of Indian and
international business. XIMB’s BM
programme is designed to closely
integrate current management
theory and practice. The course has
an evolving programme content
and is constantly updated to be in
tune with the emerging trends and
practises.
Objectives: The two-year
programme is designed to prepare
competent men and women for
careers in management in the
corporate sector and in public
systems. The courses impart a
generalist perspective, which
enable students to view the entirety
of an organisation as well as its
place in a larger environment.
The students are also trained in
technical and functional business
skills such as accounting, finance,
marketing, systems and operations;
and are helped to develop their
analytical and integrative skills so
that they can define problems with
clarity and formulate alternative
solutions for implementation.

Programme Design: The Programme
consists of core course credits and
elective course-credits totalling 105
credits. A course can be of 1.5, 2, 3
or 4 credits. One credit is equivalent
to 10 contact hours. In the first
year, the students are exposed to
the core courses only. These are
certain basic and functional area
courses. The objective is to expose
the students to the social and
economic environment within which
businesses operate in India. The

Degree: Xavier University awards

MBA-HRM is a two-year full-time
residential programme with a sharp
focus on “People Management” in
the emerging knowledge economy.
The programme is offered by the
Xavier School of Human Resource
Management (XSHRM), under Xavier
University, Bhubaneswar (XUB). HRM
in XIMB and now XSHRM has a long
history. Since 1987, XIMB has been
offering a specialisation in HRM in
the PGDM programme. A full-fledged
two-year PGDM-HRM program
was launched in 2011, and from
2014, this is offered as the flagship
program of the Xavier School of
HRM as MBA-HRM. Today alumni,
who specialised in HRM from XIMB,
hold very senior positions in industry.
The MBA-HRM programme consists
of renowned faculty, better
infrastructure, more resources and
greater industry interface. XSHRM
strives to host new initiatives
that will add greater value to the
programme and make the School
a place of choice for students,
academia and industry.

The MBA-HRM programme is

The XIMB Campus
The Institute is located on 20 acres of verdant campus on the Nandan Kanan Road in the neighborhood of NALCO, Fortune
Towers, Tech Mahindra and other renowned business houses and institutions. The entire Wi-Fi enabled campus houses
the faculty residences, office complex, library and computer center complex, class room complex, auditorium complex,
residences for gents, ladies, and executive programme participants, CENDERET office complex, Management Development
Centre (MDC) and Studio Apartments. In addition, the Institute has a floodlit basketball court, two floodlit tennis courts,
indoor badminton court, gymnasium, and playgrounds for cricket and soccer.

XUB Campus
The University campus is located on 35 acres surrounded by natural beauty and a digitalized campus with Wi-Fi and with
state-of-the-art facilities. This campus is at Kurki-Najigarh under Pipli Tahsil, situated at a distance of 20 km from our
existing campus (12 km from the Bhubaneswar Biju Patnaik International Airport). It was inaugurated on 7th July 2014 by

Social Responsibility Cell
An overview
The Social Responsibility Cell at XIMB not just another group that provides material or financial
help to the underprivileged. The cell believes in helping uplift the sections so that they become
self-sufficient and are empowered to improve their quality of life through education, vocational
trainings and enhanced awareness. The belief in being able to bring a change from smallest of
the efforts is what drives passion in the team. The dedication to spread smiles and see beyond
the small things in life is the motivation for the team. SRC provides future managers a platform
to give back to the society and understand the thin thread of symbiotic relationship between
the society and businesses. Would thriving businesses in a society mean anything if the society
itself was unwell?

What we do
SRC believes in enlightening lives by encouraging equality and access to basic human rights for all. They
facilitate the same through various activities which promote inclusive nature of celebrations of life. They
indulge in various activities across the calendar to spread happiness and ensure ample opportunities to the
students to contribute to the social well-being in and around. Few of them are listed below:
• Joy of Giving Week – In collaboration with Goonj and Bakul foundation, SRC celebrates ‘Joy of Giving’ week wherein students
and faculty donate warmly. Goonj for example through the help of the underprivileged sections, utilizes donated clothes for
the purpose of producing wearable clothes and disposable napkins at a small/medium scale
• World AIDS Day – The SRC organizes awareness camps in the slum areas to ensure participation and dissipation of
education at the roots. AIDS awareness rally also is organized through the city and various competitions like ‘Nibandh’ and
painting competitions also rule the day
• World Humanitarian Day – An annual event at XIMB wherein participants commemorate past humanitarian services to the
society through social inclusion
• Children’s Day – The SRC generally travels to orphanages and spreads happiness on children’s day by giving the
underprivileged children a chance to participate in various activities like painting, dancing and other fine arts
• Holi/Diwali/ festival celebrations – SRC’s inclusion efforts do not end at just the serious events. They join the weaker
sections of society even for the sheer joy on almost all festivals and spread joy

To facilitate all these activities, the SRC functions under

different verticals enlisted below:
• Education - Until the masses are taught the ways self-survive
in the society, all happiness will be short lived. SRC believes
in upliftment that is permanent and what better instrument
than education can there be to empower them? The Young
Adults programme (an initiative to provide vocational training
to people deprived of it) and ShikshaKunji (an initiative to
sponsor a child’s education) aim at the same.
• Community Development – This vertical concentrates on
acknowledging the sacrifices of human rights workers and
focusing on social issues like AIDS, HIV prevention, national
unity, social inequality etc. Para-athlos (sports event for
differently abled children), candle light march and AIDS
awareness events form a part of this vertical
• Ummeed – This vertical works directly with orphanages, old
age homes, schools and institutes along with corporates to
fill in the gaps that exist in the deprived sections of society
and bring about social equality strongly so that symbiotic
development is given space to prosper.
• Inter-Connect – Interconnect aims at maintaining meaningful
relationships with NGOs, corporates, other institutes’ SRC
equivalents to collectively work and bring about a change.
• X-Connect and Para athlos – This event witnesses differently-
abled students participating in various inter-school and intra-
school sports event.
It’s a huge space to work in and even greatest of efforts
sometimes fail due to the mere size of the problem of inequality.
Organizations like SRC will take time but surely leave a mark
on history in the long run. However, the volunteers at SRC work
for the sheer happiness it brings to others’ lives and theirs alike.
Smile indeed is contagious and it takes just another smile to
create a smile. Let’s spread it.

X-Fin
About the committee
X-Fin is the Finance Association at XIMB. This
committee emphasizes on developing finance
acumen among the student community by providing
tutorials, knowledge-sharing sessions, talks,
conferences and live projects. X-Fin’s activities spill
over from the arena of academics into practical
trading in the stock market. By conducting a range
of activities across colleges, it strives to achieve a
union of interest and passion in the field of Finance
and promote the college as a hub for delivering

We have a fortnightly newsletter, Finesse, which

markets’ and the economy as a whole. It provides

Live Project
We have hosted a couple of live projects in the
past. In 2014-15, we conducted the following live
projects: Educorporate bridge (Financial modeling),
CFOAxiom (KRA KPA framework development), ICICI
equity (equity analysis and trading), Flip and Hedge
cubes (Working of mutual funds).
Conclave: We organized our finance conference
with discussions in two panels on two topics: India-
An investment destination; and Impact of board
composition on the financial performance of a firm.
With a maiden attempt to host it in Mumbai and
attract industry stalwarts, we aimed at enhancing
knowledge and networking.

Consortium, is the forum for enhancing

Case Czar is an event that tests this

Guesstimate
Guesstimate questions are one of the
most common types of questions that
a candidate faces while giving an
interview for a Consulting firm. As a
part of Constrat we organize an event
that prepares aspiring consultants for
such an Interview. The event consists of
subjective questions wherein we test
only the approach of the candidates
and not the final answers. Before the
event we show the candidates how to
solve these questions by showing them
videos and giving them solved sample

MarkCon
MarkCon is a case study competition
with a difference. Each team, consisting
of not more than 4 members, act as
consultants of MARKCON consulting
firm who help the company develop
its brand image by designing a logo,

Consultrix is a unique concept

It is the annual marketing conclave held in the months of
July- August. The topic for Mercatique 2014 was “Corporate

M power is our flagship business event which is conducted
on a pan-India level. Participants from B-Schools like
XLRI, IIM K, Great Lakes, IIM S, MDI, SP Jain, and SIBM Pune
participated in M-power 2014. The event was co-sponsored
by Oriental Insurance Company who provided a real time
problem statement of the company for the candidates to
solve. The event was conducted in 3 rounds where the
participants finally had to present their solutions to the
panelists (executives from OIC).
Maxim Mela
Based on Gamification techniques, Maxim Mela is one
event which distinguishes us from most of the B- schools.
The event is conducted to provide real time solutions to
corporate through a particular marketing technique called
gamification. Some of the clients we have already catered
to are Aircel and Milk Mantra. This year we did a detailed
Market survey for Odi-ray industries, a carbonate soft drink
manufacturer in Odisha. We are already set to go bigger next
year, with bigger brands and a larger audience.

Maxinations
Maxinations is the last event in the calendar year. “War
of blocks” as it is popularly known as, is one of our flag
ship events. Maxinations 2014, the most anticipated and
memorable event at XIMB was conducted with a lot of fervor
this year. The various blocks fought it out with passion in
this one-of-a-kind 3 day extravaganza with competitions
ranging from testing one’s marketing acumen to showcasing
one’s cultural talents to recognizing one’s leadership
qualities. This year our purpose was to bind both the
campuses together in an atmosphere of fun and harmony

XSys, the Systems Association of XIMB is a student managed
body with an objective of promoting IT and Systems related
activities on the campus. XSys’s activities spill over from the
arena of academics into practical training in the Systems
area. The committee conducts panel discussions on relevant
business topics and invites eminent luminaries to grace
the occasion with their presence and participation. It also
organises seminars, talks and guest lectures on a regular
basis. On the whole, it is a community which works with the

X-SEED
X-SEED is the idea and initiative
cell of XIMB. It is a non-profit
voluntary club formed to inculcate
the entrepreneurial spirit among the
students of XIMB. Established in 2012,
X-SEED strives to create an ecosystem
of entrepreneurship by providing
mentorship, practical experience and
opportunity to learn from various
successful entrepreneurs of the world.
It takes initiatives to organize talks
with entrepreneurs, assists in bringing
live projects for students and also
organize discussions to give students a
platform to put forth their ideas.
Xavion is the Entrepreneurship
Summit of XIMB, Xavier University. It
was started in 2015 with an aim to
foster the spirit of entrepreneurship
among the students of XIMB as well
as outside, by having a number of
events over the three day period.
Ignite (The Annual Entrepreneurship
Business Conclave of XIMB), LaunchPad
(B-Plan Competition), Ideate (informal
ideating discussion), Entrepreneurial
talks by eminent entrepreneurs and
leaders, Prashanottari (an online quiz),
i-Night (one night dedicated to ideas,
in campus event) are some of the

IGNITE is the Annual Entrepreneurship

LaunchPad is a pan India B-­Plan

Ideate is a monthly entrepreneurial
interactive session.Successful
entrepreneur are invited to interact
with the students and share their
knowledge and experiences. Normally
the session is addressed by 2 successful
entrepreneurs from different verticals.
Prashnottari is the Annual National
Level Online Quiz Competition
organised during Xavion. It consists
of 15 questions which have to be
answered in 25 minutes. Udyamita is
the in-campus Entrepreneurship quiz
competition organised by X-SEED
every year to promote the spirit of
entrepreneurship in XIMB.
i-Night is a small initiative which was
started to sow the seeds of innovative
thinking and creativity amongst the
students. It is a night long session
wherein anyone who has an idea or
thought in mind, no matter how small
or big it is, can stand up and present
it to the group. Students gather and
discuss the ideas with each other.

“The Pitch” is an elevator pitch speaking forum,“Sailing my intern-

get 60 seconds to convince the jury to
invest in their idea.Last year X-Seed

Speakup
SpeakUp! The oratory committee
of XIMB much like its name strives
at bringing out the orator in each
XIMBian. The increasing emphasis
being laid by the recruiters on the
interpersonal skills of the candidates
and their ability to address crowds
effectively is one of the major reasons
which formed the genesis of this
relatively new committee. SpeakUp
provides a platform to the students
of XIMB not only to showcase their
oratory skills but also to improve
as a speaker by conducting regular
sessions and providing individual
feedback.Though only 3 years old,
SpeakUp has been proactive in making
its presence felt through numerous
events such as “VAANI”- The public
ship”- where interns from senior batch
share their experiences with the juniors
and placement oriented mock GD/
PI sessions which mainly focusses on
honing the communication skills of
the students to prepare them for the
internship and placement processes.
These events are chapter/session wise
events which are “round the year”.
The other event which is bi-annual
in nature is “Speak-a-thon” which
is a 3 daylong event. The annual
events include Leadership Talks of
motivational speakers,Turncoat and
Xansad- the parliamentary debate
competition. In what could be
considered as a mega event, this year
the committee has decided to organize
Model United Nations (MUN) at a
large scale inviting brightest minds to

achievement this year will be opening
up XIMB Toastmasters Chapter in
collaboration with Bhubaneswar

Sportscom promotes all the sporting
activities in XIMB. It facilitates
the sports culture and endeavors
throughout the year. Sportscom
organizes various events round the year
to provide a suitable platform to all the

is also responsible for maintaining all
the sports facilities in campus so that
different sports can be practiced inside
the campus without hick-ups.

X-Capade for identifying the talents of
the new batch. Xpressions, the annual
cultural flagship fest of XIMB, is driven
primarily by X-Stage which conducts
all the mega events like Carnival de

Bands), Thirkan (Dance), Goonj (Song),
Aaghaz (Street Play) and so on. Apart
from this, X-STAGE also conducts events

Spic Macay
At XIMB, SPIC MACAY has had a glorious
journey, honouring us with the pleasure
of hosting events by famous artists like
Pt. HariprasadChaurasia, Ms Sushmita
Banerjee, Gazi Khan, Mangeniar and
Group, Ms Divya Devguptapu, to name
a few. We organized ‘NaadBhed’, a
national-level classical music reality
show, VIRASAT series, heritage walks,
events at Jatin Das Centre of Art and
coordinating Art of Living sessions

LitSoc
LitSoc (Literary Society of XIMB) works
towards nurturing the literary geniuses
on campus and inculcating a culture
that promotes literary activities such
as reading and writing. Words Worth is
an intra-college event for the 1st year
students immediately after they join

Xpressions
One of the biggest cultural fest that the Eastern India witnesses every year.
It is a 4 day annual mega event conducted by the student body. The flagship
events – Maven, Gladiator, Kurukshetra, Skill City, Helios, Case in Point, all of
which gives ample opportunities to talents from all over India to showcase
their talent in variety of fields.

Leadership Talk
Leadership talks are conducted by various student driven committees where
senior management executives are invited to share their experiences. These
highly anticipated events provide a platform to students to have a close
insight into the challenges and intricacies of managing large organizations
first hand. It also gives an opportunity for the leaders of tomorrow to meet
the leaders of today.

Immersion Courses and Workshops

Immersion courses are taken for different specialisations by experts
in the respective areas from the industry. These are not part of the
regular curriculum but are organized by student committees taking into
consideration the interest of students in a specific domain. The course has
six 90 minutes sessions. Workshops are similar in nature to the immersion
courses, but of shorter duration, and of an informal nature. These enable
students to learn from industry practitioners and keep themselves updated
with the latest industry tools and frameworks.

Panel Discussions
XIMB welcomes guest speakers for panel discussions. These events
attract audience from diverse interest areas – both faculty and students
apart from XIMBians. This provides an opportunity to discuss issues with
other distinguished speakers on industry themes. These are hosted by the
respective interest committees on specific dates.

Other events
XIMB also represents access to asizeable chunk of management talent in

Pre Placement Talks (PPTs)
PPTs provide a platform to facilitate interaction between students
and companies, so that both are able to find the best match
according to their aspirations and requirements. For effective
communication, the latest technical equipment such as audio visual
facilities, LCD projector, overhead projector (OHP), TV/ VCR and
other special equipments can be made available on campus on
request. The campus also has video conferencing facility. The dates
for the PPTs can be obtained from the Placement Office. We value
any company taking some time out to getting to know our students
better, and giving an opportunity for our students to do the same.

Curriculum Vitae
The Institute follows a standard format for all the students applying
to various companies. A company can request the CVs in the
Institute’s format or any other specific format, in hard or softcopies as
desired.

Lateral and Fresher Recruitment Job Offers

The institute does not have separate lateral and fresher recruitment
processes. Hence, both the processes commence simultaneously and
run during the placement week of the institute. The students rank
the companies based on their prior knowledge and the information
gained through company’s PPTs. Based on the rankings, the job
description and the compensation being offered the participating
companies are allocated the time slots during which they can initiate
the recruitment process.
Pre Placement Offers (PPOs)
A pre-placement offer or PPO, post the summer internship, is a
much cherished job offer before final placements. An exposure of 8
weeks gives both the organization and the student an opportunity
to gauge each other’s compatibility. The firms can communicate to
the Institute their decision to offer the PPOs before the Placement
Week commences. In the event that the company does not have any
internal rules governing this process, the students’ decision however,
will be communicated to the company either after the Placement
Week is over or at its assigned time slot during the Placement Week.
A Job Offer is considered to be valid
only if the Placement Office is in receipt
of the written communication of the
same. Any form of verbal or telephonic
communication will not be considered
as job offers. The final offers for the
respective candidate will be announced
only at the designated day/time slots.
Delay or failing to do so may result in
the candidate being placed in any other
company. Appointment letters for the
selected candidate should be sent (in
duplicate) to the Placement Office within
20 days of the job offer made on the
campus. Candidate acknowledges the
job offer by the acceptance signature,
which shall be informed to the concerned
company immediately.

The MBA in Global Management and Leadership is a program integrated with 3Continent Master of Global Management which

The MBA (Global) Program comprises of two years study duration.

• During the second year the GMBA students will be undergoing their master’s degree at Xavier Institute of Management,
