Abstract

Construction projects play an important role in the economic development of every country.
These essential sectors in Ethiopia phase usual wastage risks which consequently, have negative
impacts on the economy of the country. Rapid increase in building activities because of rising
population and urbanization generates a large amount of construction waste. To know the
contributing factor for construction material wastage in Addis Ababa on few selected building
site were chosen. The questionnaire data from ten respondent working in this sector were
collected and analyzed by using relative importance index. Finding of this study indicate that
construction material such as cement, re bar, concrete, Aggregate and HCB are waste on site
mostly due to site supervision and management gap, material procurement and handling gap,
and design and workman error. The results of this study recommended that Formatting,
construction material wastage minimization strategies and all concerned stakeholder should
implement construction material waste minimization strategies.
