Red blood cells are very important for our bodies. It is found in the blood. Our
blood is made up of a liquid part. The red blood cells are found in this liquid part of
the blood. Red blood cells carry oxygen. It makes the blood red because it has
haemoglobin. Haem-iron (red in oxidized form) globin is the protein to which it is
attached. The other name is erythrocytes (erythro-means red). Red Blood cell (RBC)
is formed from bone-marrow. It has a biconcave disc shape for providing more
surface area in exchanging gases. It has no nucleus in its cytoplasm to have more
space for the haemoglobin. Since no nucleus- It has a life span of 120 days.
Nerve Cells
Nerve cells are very important. They send us the impulse to accomplish a task. It is
found in our nervous system. Nerve cells carry the impulses (electrical signals). A
nerve impulse is the way nerve cells (neurons) communicate with one another. Nerve
impulses are mostly electrical signals. The way it is branched allows the impulses to
be conducted and co-ordinated. It carries the impulses long distances without getting
interrupted.
Muscle Cell
Muscle cells are very important. They allow our bodies to move. Without it we won’t be
able to move.
It is very useful for plants. It allows more water and minerals to enter the plant. It is in the
roots of the hair. It absorbs some water and minerals actively.
What does it look like?
It is a thin thread-like structure.
It is an elongated cell: To absorb more water, it increases surface area.
It has no chloroplasts.
It has many mitochondria, and some water and minerals are absorbed actively.
Palisade Cell
Palisade cells are very important for plants. They help them to make their food. It is found in
the leaves. It absorbs sunlight for photosynthesis
How does it look like?
It has a large surface area.
It has lots of chloroplasts.
The cell wall and other parts of the cytoplasm are transparent to let the light pass through the
leaf.
It has an oblong shape.
