PART B_ EXPRESSING YOUR OPINION…

❖ Read the article below and answer the questions that follow… 29 Pts.

The number of children in public school in the United States who speak little or no
English is increasingly rapidly. For example, students in the Washington, DC, school
system speak 127 different languages and dialects. In the California public schools, one
out of six students was born outside the United States, and one out of three speaks a
language other than English at home.
These students and their teachers face many challenges, including what language to
use in the classroom. Some people believe children of immigrants should be taught in
their native language. Others believe that these children should be taught in English
only.

ANSWER THE FOLLOWINGS:

a-What is the author´s opinion?5 Pts
That all students should be taught English because These students and their teachers
face many challenges, including which language to use in the classroom.
b-What three reasons does the author give to support his or her opinion? 9 Pts
1-school system speak 127 different languages and dialects.
2- one out of six students was born outside the United States.
3-one out of three speaks a language other than English at home.

c- Write a paragraph that expresses your opinion about this article. 15 Points.
(No less than 10 lines)
My contribution or opinion regarding the article is that in this part this is of great
importance since according to what has been written it can be seen that the native
language of the country has decreased, and as the language of other countries
decreases, it has increased years later. of children arriving with different languages
years ago, but it is important to mention that it is necessary for them to learn English and
with the language they can be more stable in the country, and in the future have the
domain to be able to have a secure job. According to the author of this article, he says
that the teacher and the student suffer from this situation, but when thinking about it
correctly, this is necessary, because the language is the base and the energy of the
country of the United States will be more complicated if the country prone in having a
school for each dialect or language that is needed, therefore my opinion is that the
country opens the door to emigrants and it is necessary that they give their part with the
children since being in said country is a great opportunity, with From this we conclude
that they should make an effort to learn the English language and to deal with this
problem.
