DEVELOPMENT IN HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY

More and more, the Philippines solidify its stature as one of the fast-growing travel
destinations in Southeast Asia. No longer are we known for the beaches in Boracay, Bohol and
Palawan alone — but also for the brilliant festivals in Cebu or Iloilo, misty mountains in Ifugao
and dynamic shopping hubs in Metro Manila. And with these new hotels sharing the limelight
very soon, travelers can look forward to even more convenient ways of exploring all that this
exquisite archipelago has to offer.

1. Belmont Hotel Boracay

Belmont Hotel Boracay is expected to deliver the same level

of services that made the brand's first property in Manila a
standout at the 2018 Travel and Hospitality Awards. The new
hotel will have three clusters with 442 well-appointed guest
rooms and access to a 295-metre white powdery sand beach. Its
first cluster is set to open on June 2019 which features retail
stores, a promenade and an amenity floor, among many others!

2. The Residences at The Westin Sonata Place

Currently home to some of the country’s busiest malls and
corporate buildings, Pasig City will be the site of the new The
Residences at The Westin Manila Sonata Place. This modern
hotel under Marriott International will have over 300 rooms
strategically built throughout its 30-storey structure. The hotel
is set to open by the end of 2019.

3. Seda Hotels
In its mission to complete 6,000 hotel rooms by 2020, Ayala
Land Hotels and Resorts Corp.’s (AHRC) will introduce four
additional Seda properties across 2019. Totalling 1,122 rooms,
these hotels will comprise of the Seda Suites in Makati, Seda Bay
Area in Paranaque, Seda Central Bloc in Cebu and Seda Arca
South in Taguig, where the brand saw the most success in terms
of average occupancy through Seda BGC in 2016.

4. Dusit Hotels

The Visayas and Mindanao regions will be the focus of the

Dusit brand in the Philippines this year. Providing easy access to
Metro Cebu’s North Reclamation Area, Dusit Princess Cebu
City will feature 295 rooms that come with either a view of the sea
or city. Finally, Dusit Thani Residence Davao targets long-term
visitors with 174 fully-equipped residential accommodations.

Located in Resorts World Manila, Pasay City’s most happening corner, Hotel Okura
Manila will offer endless opportunities for guests to de-stress while being minutes away from
the country’s biggest business and leisure districts. More importantly, it will bring the best of
Japanese culture closer to travellers through top-notch hospitality services and impeccable
decorative touches as soon as it opens on the first half of 2019. The hotel will have a total of 196
rooms and suites, including the 665 sqm Okura Grand Suite. Along with two bedrooms, it has its
own indoor swimming pool, kitchen, and living and dining areas.

6. Ritz-Carlton Manila
A slight mention of the The Ritz-Carlton brand often prompts
images of the “good life”, from glamorous suites, the highest quality
cuisines and world-class services. Travelers can expect the same from
the upcoming Ritz-Carlton Manila, the result of the redevelopment of
The Maxims in the Resorts World Manila complex. The hotel will still
be under the management of Marriott International, and will be the
latest addition to the brand’s long list of properties in the Asia Pacific
region.

7. Acacia Hotel Davao

According to Davao tourism authorities, the city saw a 12% increase

of tourist arrivals in 2018 compared to the same period in 2017. The
need to build more hotels was therefore necessary. Slated to have its
soft opening on the second quarter of the year, Acacia Hotel
Davao is only a few minutes journey from Francisco Bangoy
International Airport. It’s also a few kilometers away from major
attractions like Davao Museum, Davao Riverfront and Crocodile Park.
Its most awaited facilities include 260 rooms, its own coffee shop, pool
bar, Chinese restaurant, club floor and 10 function rooms.

8. Sheraton Hotels

Also taking its place in Resorts World Manila is the Sheraton Manila

Hotel, which is set to launch this month. It houses 393 suites, lofts and
deluxe garden rooms thoroughly designed for the most stylish yet
discerning travelers. It will also have its own restaurants, S Kitchen and
Oori, an on-site co-working space, ColLab, and a Kid’s Club. Also under
Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Sheraton Mactan is scheduled to open its
doors on the third quarter of 2019. It will be home to 250 rooms and a
beachfront area overlooking Magellan Bay.

DEVELOPMENT IN CRUISE INDUSTRY

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the world’s largest cruise industry trade
association, has released the 2019 Cruise Trends and State of the Cruise Industry Outlook. The
PERALTA, MIGUEL ANGEL G.
BSHM 1-1
report offers a look at the trends impacting cruise travel in the coming year and beyond as well
as the overall global economic impact.

1. Gen Z at Sea

Generation Z is set to become the largest consumer generation

by the year 2020—outpacing even Millennials. This generation
like the one before, prefers experiences over material items and is
seeking out travel. The appeal of multiple destinations and unique
experiences, such as music festivals at sea, is attracting this new
category of cruisers.

2. WORKING NOMADS

Combining work with leisure time is on the rise. Straying far

from the notion of device-free travel, many modern travelers or
“digital nomads” are opting for trips where they can work
remotely which cuts down on time off and lost wages. With WiFi,
desks and work-friendly cafes, travelers can keep up with work
while enjoying a cruise vacation.

3. ACCESS IS THE NEW LUXURY

Travelers are setting sights on destinations that were

previously out of reach – some only accessible now by cruise ship
– from the Galapagos Islands to Antarctica.

4. ON-BOARD SMART TECH

Travelers use tech in daily lives and are expecting smart tech
when vacationing as well. Cruise lines have adopted technology for
cruise travelers—including keychains, necklaces, bracelets, apps
and more—in order to provide a highly personalized travel
experience while on and off the ship.

5. New Ships

Twenty-four new ships will debut in 2019, making it the

biggest year ever for new ship introductions. The Mein Schiff 2
from TUI Cruises will be the first of the 24 new ships delivered.
The biggest vessel to enter service this year will be the Costa
Smeralda with capacity for 5,224 passengers.

6. Drydocks Grow in Scale

The biggest project this year, and the biggest drydock ever to
take place, will see the Carnival Triumph converted into the

Carnival Sunrise over a two-month work period in Cadiz with a budget of $200 million. The ship
will debut in Norfolk, Virginia in late April with additional capacity, and a number of new
entertainment and food and beverage features.

7. Expedition Boom

The newbuild boom in the expedition market that saw the first of a
large number of new ships launching in 2018 shows no signs of
slowing down for 2019. Expedition newbuilds are all over the
orderbook this year, with 12 expedition ships set to launch into
service. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has the single biggest year, with 460
berths coming online with the Hanseatic Nature and Hanseatic
Inspiration.

8. Translating to Bookings

More than eight out of ten CLIA-certified travel agents

stated that they are expecting an Increase in Sales in 2019
over last year.

9. Gender equality and women in leadership

roles

The cruise industry serves as a good example for the

maritime sector in the field of women participation. As
gender equality is gaining an increasing awareness in
business sector, women participation is expected to grow
further in cruising, as a significant fragment of the maritime
sector which seeks to achieve a greater gender balance.

10. CONSCIOUS TRAVEL

Travelers want to see the world in a conscious, mindful

way. The cruise industry is more conscientious than ever,
working to local destinations to local cultures, landmarks and
minimize environmental footprints.
