WRITING ASSESSMENT TASK FOR AN OBJECTIVE

The revised Bloom’s Taxonomy consist of two dimensions: the cognitive process dimension and
the knowledge dimension. This can be better viewed using a table representation. The horizontal
dimension are the cognitive processes while the vertical dimension are the types of knowledge.
Table 1. The revised Bloom’s taxonomy table

Remember Understand Apply Analyze Evaluate Create

Factual A B C D E F
Conceptual G H I J K L
Procedural M N O P Q R
Metacognitive S T U V W X

When creating an assessment task under Category A of the table, that is, Remembering Factual
knowledge. One can use the following procedure:
a. State the factual procedure to be recalled.
b. Transform the statement into a question.
c. Have the students either supply or select an answer to the question.
Example
a. Vinton Gray Cerf is known as the father of the internet.
b. Who was known as the “father of the internet”?
c. ____________________ or
a) Vinton Gray Cerf b) Tim O'Reilly c) Kevin Ashton

Similarly, for Understanding Conceptual knowledge, the task format may be considered.
“Which of the following is an example of X?” Where X is the label for the important concept.
After the statement or stem, it will be followed by options under the same category where the
concept asked fall.
Example
Which of the following is an example of a rational number?
Which of the following is an example of a cause and effect?
Which of the following is an example of a simile?

For a task under category O, Apply Procedural Knowledge, the following stages may be
considered.
a. Provide students with information about some problem or situation.
b. Ask students to use specific procedural knowledge to solve the problem or find the
answer to a question.
c. Either have the students write the solution or answer or have them select solution or
answers from the alternative.

Example 1.
If you borrowed Php 1000.00 from a friend and agree to repay it with 5% interest, then the
amount of simple interest you would pay would just be 5% of 1000: Php1000(0.05) = Php 50.00.
The total amount you would repay would be__________, the original principal plus the interest.
I = Prt Where I= interest , P = principal amount, r=
rate , t = time

Example 2.
The average speed is the average of speed of a moving body for the overall distance that it has
covered.
𝑑
𝑆= , 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑆 = 𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑠𝑝𝑒𝑒𝑑, 𝑑 = 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒, 𝑡 = 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒
𝑡
Alan takes 40 minutes to drive 20 miles north. What is the average speed of Alan’s driving?

the revised Bloom’s taxonomy are just prototypes and meant to be exhaustive. Rather, they are
meant to be illustrative, of the various possibilities that exist.
