CONVERSATIONS

How to Successfully Learn Conversation?

1. Learn Pronunciation Every language has its own sound system, as well as
English an Indonesian. There are sounds contained in both Indonesian and
English. There are sounds that are in English but not in Indonesian. On the
other hand, there are also sounds that are found in Indonesian but not in
English.
2. Learn Vocabulary (Words) According to Soedjito (2009: 24) vocabulary or
vocabulary is defined as:
• All the words in a language
• The richness of words owned by a speaker or writer
• Words used in a field of science
• A list of words arranged like a dictionary as well as a brief explanation
and practical
While the vocabulary expressed by Richards, Platt and Webber (1985) is a set
of lexemes that includes single words, compound words, and idioms.
Meanwhile, Valette (1977) argues that vocabulary is a word or a group of words
that have a specific meaning. From the explanation above, it can be. It can be
concluded that vocabulary is words that have a different meaning possessed
by humans to be used in language and communication.
3. Learn Simple Speaking Tarigan (1990:3-4) defines that speaking is a language
skill that is developed in child life, which is produced by listening skill, and at
that period speaking skill is learned. Based on Competence Based Curriculum
speaking is one of the four basic competences that the students should gain
well. It has an important role in communication. Speaking can find in spoken
cycle especially in Joint Construction of Text stage (Ministry of National
Education, 2004). In carrying out speaking, students face some difficulties one
of them is about language its self. In fact, most of students get difficulties to

NUR FADILLA | 12119019 | UNIVERSITAS DIAN NUSANTARA 6

speak even though they have a lot of vocabularies and have written them well.
The problems are afraid for students to make mistakes. Speaking is the
productive skill. It could not be separated from listening. when we speak we
produce the text and it should be meaningful.
4. Learn Simple Writing Writing is an activity to create a note or information on an
object media using characters. Writing is usually done on paper with using tools
such as pens or pencils. But with the development technology as it is today,
writing can also be done using a computer or laptops. Many definitions /
understanding of writing are described by experts. For more about the meaning
of writing according to experts, please see the article below this. Each
individual's abilities are different. Every ability interconnected to form an action.
Akhmad Sudrajat shared ability into two types, namely:
a) actual ability, and
b) potential ability.
Actual ability or real skill is a skill that is obtained through learning which can
be demonstrated or tested now. Potential ability or Potential skills are aspects
of skills that are still contained within oneself individual and obtained from
heredity.
More according to Robbins in states that ability consists of two factors, namely
a) ability Intellectual ability is the ability to carry out activities independently
mental,
b) physical ability (physical intellectual), is the ability perform activities based
on stamina, strength, and physical characteristics.

TIPS AND TRICK (SHORT CONVERSATION)

In listening to the conversation, make help questions to analyze the content of the
conversation, so that it will be easier for you to answer the next question asked. - Who
are the speakers ? - What are they talking about ? - Where are they ? - What are the
speaker's professions ? - Why are they discussing the matter ? - When does the
conversation happen ? Read the questions before the dialogue is heard. If you have
time, read the answer choices provided. Be careful in reading the answer choices,
because there may be correct answers but they are not related to the questions asked.
Don't listen and then read. Read first then listen. Be aware of the following: - Words
