Q.1. Why proper maintenance organization is important? What are the key benefits of
proper maintenance policy with respect to work force, in selection of production equipment
and control?

Ans. Proper maintenance organizations are very important as they make well-designed O&M
strategies and management policies that are very essential for proper and efficient working of a
hydroelectric plant. They also generate maintenance report to monitor the progress and
fulfilment of maintenance program. Management policy, proper maintenance manual helps the
workers to perform in effective manner. All this helps to avoid in-effective maintenance
practices that lead to many problems in power plants and through these policies we make the
hydroelectric plant more efficient by increasing the lifespan of machines.
Proper maintenance policy with respect to workforce is very essential as it’s the human who
have to deal with the real situation, whether, it’s the planning phase, design phase, execution,
operation and maintenance phase, and we can find humans everywhere. Maintenance
management in managing work force has an enormous influence on both individual and group
behavior but is often ignored during both work design and the investigation of accidents and
incidents. With poor maintenance management, errors may result from poor layout, and
ineffective training can lead to poor supervision and ineffective communications. The literature
supports several factors influence the performance of the work force, such as experience, Stress,
Fatigue, Complexity of task, aging, Workstation design, available time to diagnose, available
time to act, fitness for performing the task, Training and certification [22]. In order to have
affective implementation, in house programs must be encouraged for the sustainable hydropower
generation [23].
