CRITICAL REVIEW ABOUT DIVORCE IN CHINA

Marriage is a very happy thing but still many couples do divorce. Like in China,
almost half of the Chinese population is divorced. According to Simon Leya on
indonesiasatu.com site that in early 2017 as many as 1.85 million couples registered for
divorce in the civil registry. This figure grew 10 percent compared to the same period the
previous year. Three decades ago, in 1986, 460,000 couples registered their divorce in the
civil registry. Since 2016, the divorce rate has increased to 4.15 million in a year. The
average marriage age in China is 26 years, according to a 2015 survey conducted by the
All-China Women's Federation. This level of divorce is very high compared to Indonesia.

The cause of the increasing divorce in China revealed by a speaker at a monologue

called "Divorce in China" there are several factors, namely influenced by financial and
social factors. as in other developing countries such as Indonesia, divorce in China is also
influenced by economic factors. The husband is unable to meet the needs of the family so
the wife feels weak and decides to divorce. Other factors are also caused because a wife
is too busy looking for money so that when they feel they can support themselves they
will feel selfish and do not need a husband figure. The second is social media, in using
social media sometimes it is often used incorrectly so that it can lead to divorce. A survey
conducted by Jiayuan, a dating website in April 2017, showed that as many as 38 percent
of women said they were divorced because they were cheated by their husbands and on
the men's side, 25 percent admitted they were cheated by their wives. Affair can be easily
done by a couple because of social media, especially the application of dating in the
wrong use by married couples. In addition to these two factors there are also factors that
trigger the occurrence of divorce in the household. A survey conducted by Jiayuan, a
dating website in April 2017, said that 18 percent of divorced lawsuits were caused by
wives due to domestic violence.
The Chinese government strives to reduce the occurrence of divorce by giving exam
tests to couples who will divorce to find out whether they still love each other or not. I
agree with the way the government conducted the test. Besides that the social
environment must care about a divorce. in Indonesia marriage does not only involve both
parties but also involves parents and the community. WShen a couple wants to divorce
they will consider the social influence in the future.
Therefore, with the increasing number of divorces, the Chinese government must
find a more effective solution to reduce the divorce rate.
