Law firm aims to help the less

CEBU, Philippines — With a vision of helping the less fortunate by conducting

legal clinic in Cebu, a new law firm, Gordon, Mora and Diamante (GMD) was
formally opened the other day in Cebu City.

Atty. Manuel Gordon, in his speech during the blessing of their law firm, said
that they will give the people the so called “distributive justice” as part of the
firm’s corporate social responsibility aside from helping clients sustained its
business in the corporate world ranging from brokerage, logistics, forwarding,
technology, real estate development, construction, among others.

“We have formulated on what we call as distributive justice. When luck will be
on our side and if we will be able to generate revenues out of our clients, part
of it will be dedicated and will be distributed to the poor litigants, to the most
vulnerable sector of our society.

Gordon said that, in fact, they are already committed that in every quarter,
they will conduct legal clinic to some areas in Cebu and they will start in
Tuburan, Cebu, where one of its partner, Atty. Ma. Kristina “Yan” Diamante,
came from.

“What I am excited and proud of this law firm is that its advocacy and its belief
that giving back to the society through legal aid is a must,” said Diamante, a
neophyte lawyer and daughter of Tuburan Mayor Democrito “Aljun” Diamante,
in her speech said.
The event was grace by various lawyers, businessmen, politicians and beauty
queen, newly-crowned Miss Cebu 2023 Kefaiah Al-zair.

Gordon further said that professional practice, money making in the business
and enterprise, innovation and technology should be coupled with
compassion, service and justice.

“By doing that, we will be able to find our humanity. This is what GMD law firm
is all about,” Gordon further said, acknowledging that it was one of those golf
sessions with Mayor Diamante that they were able to come up with the idea of
putting up a law firm that will not only focus on corporate lawyering but also
public interest law.

Gordon explained that public interest law would be mean helping the
marginalized sector in the society which includes women, children, LGBTQA
community, among others, especially on legal issues.

The mayor, who has been into public service for several years, was elated
that his daughter, who became a lawyer just last year, is also helping those
who have less in life which is also in line with his advocacy of alleviating
poverty among his constituents.

Atty. Rhenier Mora, who is a Certified Public Accountant, said that it is their
dream to be not just the best law firm in Cebu but in the entire Philippines.

“Make this firm great. Make this firm one of Cebu's best if not the Philippines
best law firm,” said Mora, in his speech. (FREEMAN)
