BASIC COMPUTING KNOWLEDGE SPREADING PROGRAM
INTRODUCTION

I
n Today’s world technology is very advanced, Technology is used even in the basic
needs of a country such as education, health, transportation. Technology is also used
today to facilitate the day-to-day activities of the human. Out of the continents of the
world, technology is mostly used by the countries of the European continent. This is due to
the fact that people on that continent are increasingly computer literate. Although the Asian
continent has adopted a technology that is second to none, there are still developing countries
on this continent. Computer literacy is relatively advanced in Sri Lanka, which developing
country in the Asian region. But there are two parts in Sri Lanka, those who have computer
technical knowledge and those who do not have computer technical knowledge. It called
Digital Divide.

Sub Projects
Divide the entire project into sections and separate members for each section. The subprojects
and their respective managers are listed down below.

Sub project Manager Sub Project Role

Eshan Monitor Evaluator
Arosh Specialist
Dimuth Implementer
Malshi Resource Investigator
Roshen Completer Finisher

The goal of this project

The Goal of this project is reducing the digital divide and increase the knowledge of those
students who never had experienced a learning system with a proper learning material such as
electronic components, peripheral components.

Milestones Of the Project
 Select a school for the project and get the permission.
 Discussed with the principal of this school and select a proper date, time and target
audience.
 Decide the requirements of that target audience.
 Discuss team members for this project.
 Create a content that suitable for that target audience.
 Then we found the needed learning materials.
 Create a budget for this whole project.
 Choose a suitable transport method and reach to the school.
 Do that project
 Get feedback of target audience and principal of school.

Select a school
It took a lot of effort to choose a school according to the current situation in the country.
There we had to pay more attention to transport facilities. For these reasons, finding a school
within the Galle district was a big challenge for us. However, Medawela College in Boossa
town in the Galle district was chosen as our school. The school has a very low level of
computer literacy and the number of students studying there is very low.

Results of discussion
After discussions with the Principal of Boossa Meddewela College, a suitable date and time
for the do of this project was selected. Then we selected 20th of June 2022 at 2.30 pm (after
school time) for doing this project.

Requirements of the target audience

They need to get as much notice as possible within two hours. It means they want to learning
experience with hardware components like never before.

Feedback

How I experience this project

 Working as a team  Working effectively with a gathering of individuals to
achieve common consequence or objective.
 Making a correct project plan  Learning how to project will be performed out,
supervised, managed and finished.
 Communicate with the team  Learn different types of communication with team
members members such as online meeting, chat group,
physically meeting,
 Time management  Learn many time management methods like as
maintenance of the scheduled plan, create a list of
tasks, estimate resources and time.
 Critical Thinking  Learn how to define the process of reasoning and
enquiring in order to establish and update opinion
based on good reasoning.
 Collaboration with others  Learn problem solving in unique ways, improve blend
of interactions, connectivity with each member
ability.

How I feel it
 I enjoyed working in a team environment, and I get along well with people.
 I understood working with a team needs a good communication. Because it helps to
delegate tasks more easily, which led to earlier completion dates.
 This was also challenging, as it can mean working with people with very different
personalities and perspectives.

Analyzing Project

Managing time
In fact, in some projects, I could not manage time. Because of the novelty of the subject and
some of the instructions were unclear. Due to power outages and other things. But in the
middle of the time period, I was able to manage my time well.

Team Working
The first day I thought this was not a new experience and this would be the other group work
I did. But no, I was wrong this was a challenge for me sometimes. But in the middle of the
time period, I was able to manage it.

About the Lecturer

Our lecturer showed us through his teaching strategy how he is an experienced teacher in this
subject and field. He explained all the facts on the subject very well. His communication
styles, movements, speaking styles are perfect also very clear and neat.

Communication
We used Tuckman's team development stages to improve the communication skills of our
team members.

Action Plan
 As a project manager in future, this subject helps every part of the project run more
smoothly.
 This allows a project team to focus on the work that matters, free from the distractions
caused by tasks going off track or budgets spinning out of control.
 Be an experienced project manager and complete the all tasks correctly and get more
profit.

Interpersonal Skills

Our team helped in many ways to make our project a success. In the meantime, I must say
that I have acted remarkably well here. Because I'm the one carrying the full load here.
Somehow it worked from the day I planned this until the very end. I was a great help to the
team as organizer and acting manager as well as program manager and hardware finder.

Gibbs Reflective Cycle

Gibbs Reflective Cycle is one of a number of theoretical models used to assist with writing
reflectively.

The model was created by Professor Graham Gibbs and appeared in Learning by Doing (Gibbs,
1988):

Gibb’s model was developed from an earlier theoretical model created by Kolb, known as
Four Stage Experiential Learning Cycle (McLeod, 2017).

Feasibility Study

As we all know the digital divide is a term that refers to the gap between demographics and
regions that have access to modern information and communications technology (ICT), and
those that don't or have restricted access. This technology can include the telephone,
television, personal computers and internet connectivity. Then the main target is reducing this
digital divide of students who are studying in a developing school.

Summarize of lesson

 Main introduction about Information and Communication Technology

This is the first part of lesson. In this part I introduced basic idea of ICT and what are the uses
of ICT such as education, health, transport and other fields.

 Introduction about Internet of Things

In modern century, IOT is the most popular technology that uses in ICT. So this is little bit
difficult to give fundamental of IOT. However, in this topic, I introduced history of IOT, how
to evaluation it in Sri Lanka, what are the uses of IOT.

 Smart Virtual facilities.

This topic is also related in above IOT topic. Because smart virtual facility is one of the
results of Internet of things. In this topic, I introduced smart security system such as smart
door locks, working of robotic arms, Biometrics security systems.

 How to use ICT in education.

This is little bit different than other topics, because the traditional learning system should be
converted in modern LMS based Learning system. I introduced this part, how to work with
LMS, How to prefer the web site for education purpose.

 Computer hardware

This is main focused point that I thought to introduce to target audience. In this part I
introduced, what are the peripheral devices, parts of computer motherboard, technology of
each part, what are the uses of each part. As well as I taught how to buy personal computer
with matching the components.

CONCLUSION

W e hoped that this program would give a school with digital bridge children the
basic knowledge of computers as they do not have the basic knowledge, with the
opportunity to learn that basic knowledge in a practical way with the necessary
hardware like never before. It can be said that we as a team have succeeded in this endeavor
in the face of the current situation in our country through many obstacles. Because in the end
we got very good compliments. We also hope that the students of that college were able to
clear their doubts about knowledge. In the end, I'm very happy to be able to make such
