CREATING AN EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION
1. Minimize – Keep slide counts to a
minimum to maintain a clear
message and keep the audience
attentive.
2. Clarity – Use a font style that is easy
to read.
3. Simplicity – Use bullets or short
sentences.
4. Visuals – Use graphics to help in your
presentation but not too many to
distract the audience.
5. Consistency – Makes your design
uniform.
6. Contrast – Use a light font on a dark
background or vice versa.
BASIC PARTS & FUNCTIONS IN MICROSOFT
PPT
o Slide – is a single page of a
presentation collectively, a group of
slides may be known as a slide deck.
The shortcut key to insert a new slide
is Ctrl + M.
o Design Templates – These are pre-
designed graphic styles that you can
apply to your slides.
o Animations – These are a set of
effects that can be applied to text or
graphics within a slide.
o Slide show Button – A collection of
contains text and images for
presenting to an audience. You may
press F5 if you want to start your
presentation from the beginning of
the slides or you may click to display
the current slide in the presentation.
o Transitions – Are motion effects that
when in Slide show view, it adds
movements to your slides as you
move from one slide to another.
o Presentation View – Are the buttons
that you use to change views into
normal, outline, slide sorter, notes
page, and reading views.
PRESENTATION VIEW
1. Normal View – Is a simplified layout
of the page so you can quickly key,
edit, and format the text.
2. Outline View – Displays all of the text
in a PowerPoint slide show in outline
form regardless of the design,
objects, and animations.
3. Slide Sorter View – Allows you to see
thumbnails of all slides in your
presentation to easily arrange them.
4. Notes Page View – Displays your
slides on the top portion of the page,
with the speaker notes for each slide
in the notes pane on the bottom of
the presentation.
5. Reading View – Is the default view in
PowerPoint Online. It is similar to the
Slide Show view in some ways
because, in both views, the slide is
shown in full-screen mode.
Hyperlink – Is a reference to another file.
The file referred to by the hyperlink can be
accessed by clicking or hovering the cursor
on the hyperlink itself.

a) Anchor Link – This is a hyperlink that
points to a portion of the same
document.
b) Inline Link – The content is located in
other or remote files.

Basic Principles of Graphics and Layout:
 Balance
 Emphasis
 Movement
 Pattern, Repetition, and Rhythm

 Variety
1. Balance – The visual weight of
objects, texture, colors, and space is
evenly distributed on the screen.
Types of Balance:
- Symmetrical – balance is achieved by
giving equal weight to elements
across the center point of a
composition.
- Asymmetrical – balance occurs when
the elements on a layout are
different, but by being equally
weighted still feel balanced.
- Radial – balance often naturally
occurs in the environment-ripples,
whirlpools, tree rings, and flower
petals. In graphic design, spirals are
the best way to achieve radial
balance.
2. Emphasis – An area in the design that
may appear different in size, texture,
shape, or color to attract the viewer’s
attention.
3. Movement – Visual elements guide
the viewer’s eyes around the screen.
4. Pattern, Repetition, and Rhythm –
These are the repeating visual
element on an image or layout to
create unity in the layout or image.
Rhythm is achieved when visual
elements create a sense of organized
movement.
5. Proportion – Visual elements create a
sense of unity where they relate well
with one another.
6. Variety – This uses several design
elements to draw a viewer’s
attention.
ONLINE IMAGE FILE FORMATS
 Joint Photographics Experts Group –
The JPEG image format was designed
to efficiently store and compress
realistic images and artwork (both in
color and greyscale)
 Graphics Interchange Format – GIF
stands for Graphics Interchange
Format, in social media, GIFs are
small animations and video footage.
A GIF is commonly used to represent
a feeling or action.
 Portable Network Graphics – PNG
file format is what we would most
often use in digital design projects.
The PNG tends to have a larger file
size than the other two formats, but
it also preserves hard edges and can
handle a high amount of colors while
keeping the load time fast enough to
use online.
INFOGRAPHIC
- Are used to represent information,
statistical data, or knowledge in a
graphical manner.
- These are usually done in a creative
manner to attract the viewer’s
attention.
