MID TERM EXAMINATION

Course Title: Quantitative Research Methods

Course Code: BAMG5003
Instructor’s Name: Dr. Shabana Naveed
Program: MS
Max. Marks: 45

Scenario 1:

Required:

1- What is the philosophical stance; and the type or Ahmad’s research (basic/applied).
Provide arguments for your choices. (5+5= 10 Marks)

This is Applied research as digital transformation of work places during COVID-19

pandemic are emerging and evolving quickly
As a field of practice focused on human development and human flourishing, it is
incumbent upon Human Resource Development to initiate a discussion on how we
recognize and value care in the workplace. Such a discourse needs to examine how care
in the workplace can be normalized as a natural human need. From a theoretical
standpoint, this may involve expanding our understanding of HRD beyond its traditional
foundations and adopting more humanistic approaches to safeguarding employee
welfare and growth in the Workplace.
2- Identify and label all the variables in the theoretical framework of Ahmad’s study and
draw the research model (schematic diagram) of the study. (10 Marks)
The following variables that Ahmad will consider for employee job motivation and
productivity:

 Value of reward
 Effort–reward probability
 Abilities and traits
 Role perceptions
 Performance
 Rewards
 Intrinsic rewards
 Extrinsic rewards
 Satisfaction

3- Develop at least 5 hypotheses from the framework of Ahmad’s research. (10 Marks)

 The first hypothesis of the study concludes that there is significant relationship between intrinsic
motivation and employee performance.
 The second hypothesis of the study concludes that there is significant relationship between
extrinsic motivation and employee performance.
 Adoption of extrinsic rewards does not have significant relationship on the employee„s
performance.
 Adoption of intrinsic reward does not have significant relationship on the employee„s
performance.
Scenario 2:

Interpret following Three SPSS outputs.

a- The scatterplot can be used to check a number of aspects of the distribution of two
variables. What does the following scatter plot indicates about the relationship between
age of an employee and willingness to learn new ways of doing things. (5 Marks)

The relationship between age of an employee and willingness to learn new ways of doing things
is negative as the age growing the %age for willingness and motivation is going down.

b- Interpret the output of correlation in following table. (5 Marks)

The correlation is High degree: as the coefficient value lies between ± 0.50 and ± 1.

c- For the following output, the dependent variable is ‘perceived stress’ and predictors
(Independent variables) include age, optimism and life satisfaction. Interpret following
outputs of standard regression with respect to answering following questions: (5 Marks)
1: How much variance in perceived stress scores can be explained by the three
predictors?

As the Sig. is < 0.05, the null hypothesis is rejected

2: Which is the best predictor of perceived stress: Age, optimism or life satisfaction.
