SMALL CASE STUDY

A hotel group recruits a successful senior executive from a manufacturing company to turnaround the
hotel group.

1. Discuss what type of challenges this new executive may face in this position.

The executive needs to learn the hospitality industry, his company's place and business model in it,
its trends, stakeholders, executive choices, measurements, and much more. The challenges this new
executive may face are first, hiring new staff. Since Manufacturing and hotel are different types of
business the new executive might get confused on what types of skills are needed to hire a new staff
since a hotel needs a quality of staff. Second, Newmarket will pressure new executives to deal with not
just improving custom interactions but also dealing with online reputation and manipulation. Lastly,
change in guest Needs and wants. The changing expectations of guests are one of the greatest
challenges in the hospitality industry. Manufacturers are mostly handling materials, making a product
or goods to sell but hoteliers are more likely are the rooms and interactions with the guest.

2. Discuss the types of skills that this executive may need in this new position.

The skills that needed by the new executives first is to analyze, they need to understand their place
in the market, their competitors, and the difference. Second is innovate, they need to do new things
based on their analysis. If you keep doing the same thing and expect different results, you are
insane. And lastly is to communicate, the innovations need to be communicated to the entire company
and then the market. The company needs to understand and internalize the changes otherwise there is
no difference.
