Course Goals and Learning
Objectives
1. Learn the basic concepts of vibration phenomenon and its
significance in
mechanical systems.
2. Students will demonstrate the ability to model and analyze free and
forced
vibration of single- and multi-degree of freedom systems.
3. Develop an understanding and ability to model, analyze, and
design/modify
mechanical systems subjected to vibratory loadings.
4. Students will demonstrate the ability to use experimental as well as
theoretical
vibration analysis for system parameter identification and vibration
troubleshooting.
5. Students will learn how to design vibration absorbers and insulators
and how to use vibration analysis techniques including vibration
measurement.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completing this course, the student will be able to: -
1. Develop analytical models for single and multiple degree of
freedom systems.
2. Predict the response due to impulsive, sinusoidal and arbitrary
excitation.
3. Model systems using ODE, Laplace, Energy approaches.
4. Understand aspects of base excitation, shock loading,
isolation and transmissibility.
5. Develop multi-degree of freedom (MDOF) models and
identify eigenvalues/vectors
of systems; modal models.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completing this course, the student will be able to: -
6. Understand basic aspects of numerical computation of
various algorithms.
7. Understand basic random vibration analysis methodology and
techniques.
8. Students shall show clear understanding of internal and
induced damping and their effect on vibration response
characteristics for different mechanical systems.
