Fluid Mechanics:

Navier Stokes
Equations
What are Navier-Stokes Equations?

● Navier-Stokes equations are the most general equations of fluid

flow.
● Consists of mass, momentum and energy conservation equations of
the flow region
● Equations are written in a unit volume of the flow region.
Mass conservation (Continuity equation)

The above equation shows that the rate of change in mass within flow
region is proportional to the directional derivatives of the momentum of
the flow.
Momentum conservation

Since momentum is a vector, it has all the spatial components

Therefore this conservation alone will give three equations. Same as

Newton's second law of motion.
Energy conservation

The total derivative of the total energy of a fluid element is the power due
to the work done by the forces and the heat influx
