ACTIVITY - 1

OBJECTIVE: A) To draw the graph of a quadratic polynomial and observe:

(i) y = x2– 2x – 8 : The shape of the curve when the coefficient of x2 is positive and the
number of zeroes and its nature.

(ii) y = 3 – 2x – x2 : The shape of the curve when the coefficient of is x2 negative and the
number of zeroes and its nature.

(iii) y = x2– 6x + 9 : Its number of zeroes and its nature.

(iv) y = 2x2– 4x + 5 : Its number of zeroes and its nature.

B) To draw the graph of a cubic polynomial and observe:

(i) y = x3– 4x : Its number of zeroes and its nature.

(ii) y = x3– 2x2 : Its number of zeroes and its nature.

(iii) y = x3 : Its number of zeroes and its nature.

MATERIAL REQUIRED: Graph paper, ruler, pencil, eraser, pen, adhesive.

PROCEDURE:
1. Consider the given quadratic polynomial.

2. Find the ordered pairs (x, f (x)) for different values of x.

3. Plot these ordered pairs on the Cartesian plane.

4. Join the plotted points by a free hand curve. (Do not use a ruler.)
