Energy Changes
In a chemical reaction, bonds must always be both broken and formed. The breaking of
chemical bonds requires the absorption of energy while bond forming requires the release
of energy. This means that in bond breaking, more energy is absorbed than is released,
making it endothermic. Bond forming is exothermic, as more energy is released than is
absorbed
