Energy Changes
In a chemical reaction, bonds must always be both broken and formed. The breaking of
chemical bonds requires the absorption of energy while bond forming requires the release
of energy. This means that in bond breaking, more energy is absorbed than is released,
making it endothermic. Bond forming is exothermic, as more energy is released than is
absorbed

Determining For A Reaction

Enthalpy change ( ) is further specified for a particular reaction, e.g. for a
neutralization reaction, enthalpy change is called enthalpy of neutralization.
It's symbol is .

of a reaction can be calculated from:

mass of liquid * c *

Enthalpy of Neutralization
is defined as the energy change when 1 mol of water is formed in the
reaction between an acid and a base
