Ethical dilemmas are imminent when handling with human life, even with the purest intentions of

creating or recreating life itself. According to the video, the act of human sexuality plays a huge role
in creating life that is required in order for a child to be conceived. Now, if artificial reproduction and
different innovations on reproductive technology is now present, that sanctity or sacredness of doing
the act of love to produce an offspring is somewhat made to be indifferent. This is because it means
that life can be replicated now easily and are accessible for many. It violates the union of two
individuals because now, there is an alternative way of producing life without the need for the actual
sexual intercourse. And because it has been already imminent way before, consequently, it is widely
accepted now in the society because of the opportunities generated from this innovation.
In the context of artificial reproduction, another ethical dilemma that is considered to be detrimental
for the sanctity of life; this is the ethical issue about preimplantation genetic diagnosis or PGD. PGD
is done for the sole purpose of selecting an embryo capable of being the healthiest among the other
pool of embryos. Consequently, the other unfavorable embryos and/or embryos that are past their due
date of implanting it to the surrogate’s uterus are used research. But, if the embryos serve no purpose
for humans, it is now then destroyed. This creates an issue because all of those unwanted embryos
can have the opportunity to live if ever they have the chance but are limited because of their genetic
disorder. It violates the whole aspect of “nobody is perfect” and it leads to treating the desired
offspring to be an ownership. Moreover, I agree to the point in the video about the whole act of
artificial reproduction is and should be maintained at a certain degree. Not to a point where it
becomes a replacement and not as an assistance. All in all, it may seem beneficial for the humanity
because it longs for population growth or even provides joy for the parents, we shouldn’t just do it
for the sake of our own and think about what the consequences may be or the risks before we decide
to this form of reproduction. A great example would be adoption, there are other living children who
needs help. We need to reevaluate our ethical principles and consider other options first before we
dive into this decision.
