TH 4 OPERATORS BUILDING ‘The structural design of the building must be in accordance with the trinidad and Tobago Small Building Code All buildings must have a concrete skirting at least Im wide, spanning the building perimeter Finishes i, Anti-skid tiles must be provided for all floors to be tiled ii, Floor of operator room must be tiled ili, Floor of equipment rooms must be given an epoxy finish with anti- slip additive iv. Bathroom and toilet must be tiled to a height of 1.8m v. External paint job shall conform to the WASA specifications attached ‘A small laboratory must be provided for onsite testing of BOD, SS, SVI, FC and DO 2, THEGENERATOR - 8 The generator (and blowers) must be housed. Power ratings for standby power are defined by ISO 8528-1 Automatic Transfer Switch shall comply with UL 1008 Standard The generator should provide 48 hours standby capacity under peak flow conditions; pumps, blowers, house lights, plug outlets and security lights should be taken into account. In addition to the integrated day tank, an auxiliary fuel tank must be provided. The minimum width for the access road is Sm b. Pavement design should be in accordance with AASHTO Guide for Design of Pavement Structures, Washington DC, 1993. The heaviest vehicle expected on the plant is the Vacuum and Jetter Truck (Vac Master) which has the following specifications: ® Gross weight - 18 US tons © Front axle loading - § US tons © Rear axle loading - 15 US tons On average, this truck could be expected on the plant once every three (3) months, ORKS a. A location plan must be provided b. A site plan showing contours, wind direction and relevant setback distances must be provided Landscaping and Drainage must be addressed 4. A 2.1 meter perimeter fence with razor wire is to be provided, Hot dipped galvanized, 10.5 gauge, steel fencing is acceptable, Double swing gates must be provided. ©. Adequate security lighting must be provided. HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES 1. OSHACT a. Design must fulfill requirements of OSH Act 2004, amended 2006. 2. SAFETY SIGNS The following is a list of required signs: WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT NAME, WARNING: NO UNAUTHORISED ACCESS. All signage must be clear and legible. A Best Practice Guide to Safety Signs has been attached for your use. 3, FIRE SAFETY a, Adequate protection against fire must be provided. 4. POTABLE WATER a. Potable water is required at all wastewater facilities as such a hose bib and laundry tub with tap is required. These should be placed external to the operator's building GENERAL GUIDELINES & SPECIFICATIONS J. CORPORATE BUIL VG COLOURS Standard Colours: a. Turquoise: Coates JS 5 or alternatively Pantone 320 Flat or Glossy. Berger Paints Bright Aqua and Iey Haze (lighter tone of bright aqua) are used as primary and accent colours respectively. b. 30% Grey c Black NB: All the above colours can be used either as oil or water based paint products. Application of Colo: a. Turquoise Icy Haze, the lighter tone of Bright Aqua, is used as the primary colour on external walls of buildings. 3 of 24 ae olSpeciteations jplfasaa WWTP Design, Construction & Material Specifications Cy Bright Aqua is used as an accent colour on external building walls. It is also used as an extemal 900mm width wall border, from ground where fixed wall rendered forms are not evident. This colour is not for internal use. Icy Haze and Bright Aqua are Berger (Mixed) Paint Colours. Bright Aqua is a match for Coates JS 5. b. 30% Grey ‘This is rarely used but can be used in conjunction with ley Haze and Bright Aqua, c. Black Used on doors, door frames, borders, metal work/grilles, gates NB: White is also a colour used but is not one of our corporate colours. It can be used as a background colour and for contrast. ELOW METER MASTER KEY LOCK SYSTE} a. An influent flow metering device is required, a. Master Key Lock System is required i.e, one key should open all padlocks at the treatment plant and associated lift stations. b, Weather-proof locks are required. MATERIALS & PARTS SPECIFICATION a, Materials shall be selected that are appropriate under conditions of exposure to hydrogen sulphide and other corrosive gases, greases, oils, and other constituents frequently present in wastewater. ‘This is particularly important in the selection of metals and paints, Contact between dissimilar materials should be avoided or other provisions made to minimize galvanic action b. Galvanised wrought iron (GI or GWI) is not acceptable. 4 of 24 sign, Construction & Material Specifications MANHOLE SPECIFICATIONS 1. MANHOL a. Manholes shall be of a minimum diameter of 1.2m, and 28N/mm? sulphate resistant concrete shall be used in the construction and installation of the manhole. b. Manholes shall be of the pre-cast reinforced concrete cylinder type, The base of the manhole shall be such as to permit the flushing of solids. ¢. Manhole base, sections, and top shall conform to the requirements of ASTM C478, "Specification for Pre-cast Reinforced Concrete Manhole Sections", Flow channel(s) in the manhole base shall be formed of 4,000 psi conerete, 2. MANHOLE COVERS AND THEIR SUPPORTS & Manhole frames and covers shall be heavy duty cast iron frames and covers designed for traffic loads. The cover and frame castings shall meet the requirements of ASTM A48, Specifications for Gray Iron Castings, Class No. 35, or Grade 65-45-12 ductile iron meeting the requirements of ASTM A536, "Standard Specification for Ductile Iron Castings.” b. Frames for manholes shall be pressure-tight base flange type. Manhole covers and their supports when located in plant roadways, shall comply with local standard highway requirements if any; otherwise, they shall be designed to carry a truck rear-axle load of at least 20,000 pounds. The manhole covers shall be fitted with a gasket to the approval of the ‘Authority. 3. MANHOLE STEPS a Manhole rung spacing shall be not less than 300 mm (12) or more than 375 mm (15"), Their minimum width should be 375 mm (15*) and they should be designed to prevent the foot from slipping sideways, Adequate clearance should be provided between the wall of the manhole and the rungs to afford secure footing, b. The rungs shall be made from a corrosive resistant material. The design, spacing and materials for manhole steps shall be approved by the Authority. Sof24 @; a WWTP Design, Construction & Material Specifications qlasag 4. WATER TIGHTNESS a, Solid and watertight manhole covers are to be used in all cases. Where significant sections of sewers are provided with watertight manholes, extended vents may be required to prevent excessive sulphide generation. Locked manhole covers may be desirable in isolated easement locations or ‘where vandalism may be a problem, b. Inlet and outlet pipes shall be joined to the manhole with a gasketed flexible watertight connection or any watertight connection arrangement that allows differential settlement of the pipe and manhole wall to take place. 5. CORROSION PR TION Where corrosive conditions due to septicity or other causes are anticipated, corrosion protection on the interior of the manholes shall be provided. Wastewater Pumping Stations 1. GENERAL a. The pumping station shall be designed to handle peak flows with 100% standby capacity, also the station must be provided with standby power generation units, b. The distance between the compound of the pumping station and a residential premise shall not be less than 50m (1648). A portable water supply must be provided, including a 400 litre storage tank with a pump capable of delivering a minimum of 90lpm at 30m head, Toilet/bath facilities are to be provided for wastewater pumping stations. S, a. The pumping station shall have paved vehicular access, surface drainage, seourity lights and shall be adequately fenced, b. Suitable and safe means of access for persons wearing self-contained breathing apparatus shall be provided to dry wells, and to wet wells, Safe access shall be provided for dry and wet wells to allow for inspection and 6 of 24 WWTP Design, Construction & Material Specifications maintenance. Access to wet wells containing either bar screens or mechanical equipment requiring inspection or maintenance shall conform to Section J under Wastewater Treatment Facility (Access & Ventilation) within this document. 'Y¥ LANDINGS a. For built-in-place pump stations, a stairway to the dry well shall be provided with rest landings at vertical intervals not to exceed 12 feet (3,7 m). For factory-built pump stations over 15 feet (4.6 m) deep, a rigidly fixed landing shall be provided at vertical intervals not to exceed 10 feet Gm). Where a landing is used, a suitable and rigidly fixed barrier shall be provided to prevent an individual from falling past the intermediate landing to a lower level. 4. BUOYANCY a. Where high groundwater conditions are anticipated, buoyancy of the wastewater pumping station structures shall be considered and, if necessary, aclequate provisions shall be made for protection. 5. PUMPING STATION LAYOUT 2. Influent pipe for in-ground pumping stations shall be designed with a minimum distance of two volute diameter away from the pump centre line. Benching in the wet well shall be steep and close to the pump inlet to prevent sediment build-up on the wet well floor. b. Access opening for the pump shall be located and sized for the efficient installation or removal of the pump. It must also be sized to permit the entry of operators or maintenance staff wearing retrieval equipment hhamess without having to disconnect the safety line, The minimum dimensions of the access hatch shall be 900 mm by 750 mm. The access hatch cover shall be fabricated with light non corrosive material and be hinged and lockable by a padlock. «. Lock port shall be recessed and provided with drainage pipe. The cover shall be provided with the necessary hold open arm to Keep the cover in the vertical position once it is opened. 4. An overflow pipe will be required in all cases unless the location prohibits its installation. In such cases, standby power will be required. Overflow pipes (minimum 200 mm) shall be installed in the wet well as high as possible without causing a sewer backup or basement flooding, and shall be equipped with a dedicated overflow alarm, A pressure gauge shall be provided at each pump discharge pipe above the flood line. All fixtures, enclosures and rails shall be made of certified corrosion resistant material £ Provide required equipment for the safe retrieval of personnel in confined space, g. Provide lifting devices for the removal and installation of equipment, h. Provide a minimurh of one (1) meter clear space around equipment for servicing. 6. WETWELLS @. The wet well shall provide a minimum holding period of 1Omins for the design flow and in areas affected by seasonal flooding precautionary measures shall be taken to guard against flooding of the wetwell. reenshattbe-providedbetore the -werwett, and adequate provisions must be made for the removal and disposal of screenings. Adequate ventilation must also be provided. c. The wet well should be designed to prevent vortexing, and/or air binding, d, The wetwell depth shall not exceed 25 feet (7.62m), from top of grade to the bottom of the wetwell. e. The wet well diameter shall be a minimum of six (6) feet (1.83m). £ The wet well floor shall have a grout fillet with a minimum slope of | to 1 toward a "hopper" bottom with the horizontal area of the bottom being no greater than necessary for proper installation and function of the pump suction. g. Wet well base, barrel sections, and riser section shall conform to the requirements of ASTM C478, "Specification for Precast Reinforced Concrete Manhole Sections"; also the cement used for the conerete shall be sulphate resistant. h, The base of the wet well shall be cast monolithically or integrally with the bottom barrel section. The base section shall be sct in a levelling course of crushed stone with the sub-base compacted to not less than 98% of maximum dry density as determined by the Modified Proctor Test ASTM D 1557. 80f24 WWTP Design, Construction & Material Specifications 7. PUMPS a, ‘The pumps shall be of the type that can be removed without entering the wet well. Pumps and motors shall be capable of continuous operation without damage, submerged or dry. Front rail withdrawal systems shall be required. ‘The following spare parts and tools shall be furnished for each pump: i, For standard centrifugal pumps: One (1) set of ceramic stationary seal and rotating carbon seal, two (2) sets of spare gaskets and “O” rings including hydraulic sealing flange gasket, special impeller pullers, and special wrenches needed for breakdown of pump. ii, For grinder pump stations: One (1) set of mechanical seals, special impeller pullers, and special wrenches for breakdown of pump. ‘The high water (alarm) level should not exceed the invert elevation of the influent pipe. For drop inverts the alarm shall not exceed the “upper” invert elevation, Control elevations shall be set so that the Low Water Level (pump off) will be at least 3 inches (76mm) above the top of the pumps so that the pumps will remain submersed at all times. i, The top of the pump is defined as the highest point such as the housing or the electrical cable connector, ii, The distance between Low Water Level and the invert elevation(s) shall be less than 2.0 feet (610mm), otherwise, a drop connection will be required Bach pump shall have a stainless steel nameplate indicating the HP, amps, volts, phase, rpm, service factor, insulation Class, serial number, model number, GPM, TDH, and impeller number or size. i. A self-adhesive aluminum tag shall be mounted inside the outer door of the control cabinet for each pump installed. ii, The aluminum tag shall contain the same information as the stainless steel nameplate. 9 of 24 8 DISCHARGE PIPING AND APPURTENANCES a. All welded stainless steel components in the wet well shall be fabricated of 3161. stainless steel, Gate valves shall be of the resilient seat type meeting the requirements of ANSVAWWA C509, with an internal coating per C550. All gate valves shall be coated with a fusion bonded epoxy coating applied to both the exterior and the interior surfaces prior to assembly of the valves. Check valves shall conform to AWWA Standard C-508 and shall be iron body, fully bronze mounted, stainless stee! hinge pin, outside lever weight operated, swing non-slam type, and equipped with removable inspection, covers. Valve design shall incorporate a rubber-faced bronze clapper disc seated by a bronze clapper arm against a bronze seat ring. The clapper arm shall be secured to a stainless steel shaft which turns in bronze bushings. The bushings shall be provided with "O-ring seals, ‘The guide rail, guide rail brackets, cable holder, lifting bale, and all support bolts and hardware shall be 316L stainless steel, Front rail withdrawal system shall be required. Guide rails shall be fabricated from 2" (50mm) diameter pipe (minimum). The pump guide rails will be supported by 316L stainless steel brackets supplied by the Contractor. i. Intermediate guide rail brackets shall be located at mid-length of guide rail, as a minimum, ii, Length between supports shall not exceed 10! maximum. iii. Bracket bolt holes shall be slotted to enable alignment of guide rails. Alll suspension hooks for control cables and lift cables with stainless steel rings shall be 3161 stainless steel. i, Inner diameter of the suspension hooks shall be 1-3/4" minimum. ii, Lift cables shall be 3/8" diameter (minimum) with 4 inch diameter 3161 rings located every eight (8) feet. 10 0f24 WWTP Design, Construction & Material Specifications Wastewater Treatment Facility 1. GENERAL a, Treatment plants are to be located downwind of residential premises. ‘Treatment tanks shall not be located Jess than 50m (164R) from the habitable premises. Fencing and lighting of the wastewater treatment plant shall be provided, and adequate land shall be provided for the treatment facility including additional land area for future plant expansion. b. All treatment units shall be provided with service access- steps/ladders, walkways and handrails. All works must be painted and adequate surface drainage must be provided. ¢. A portable water supply must be provided, including a 400 litre storage tank with a pump capable of delivering a minimum of 90 Ipm at 30m head, 2, ACCESS a. The treatment facility shall be made accessible to vehicular traffic. Paved roadways, including on-site vehicular parking and paved walkways between treatment units and buildings must be provided. 3. ACCOMMODATION a, Adequate accommodation by means of a room equipped with storage cupboards, lavatory facilities with hot and cold water shall be provided. For-instatlations-servingS00-ots~and-more;-an-eperater-room-shall-bo~ -provided. b, The structural design and construction of the building shall conform to Trinidad and Tobago Standards: Guide to the Design and Construction of Small Buildings. ¢. All WASA buildings or structures shall be flood proof. The site for the new facility shall be appropriately selected or designed to be above the 20 year recurrence interval flood line, 4, STRUCTURAL CONSIDERATION a The structural design of treatment plants shall be sufficient to accommodate anticipated ground movement including any active geologic faults and allow for independent dewatering of all treatment units Hof 24 a , ‘alSpecitention, uasaa WWTP Design, Construction & Material Specifications @ 5, CONDUITS AND PIPING a. All piping and channels should be designed to camy the maximum expected flows. The incoming sewer should be designed for free discharge. Bottom comers of the channels must be filleted. Pockets and comers where solids can accumulate should be eliminated. Suitable gates should be placed in channels to seal off unused sections, which might accumulate solids. b. The use of shear gates or stop planks is permitted where they can be used in place of gate valves or sluice gates. Non-corrodible materials shall be used for these control gates. Pipe and accessories used for conduits shall conform to the standard specifications of the AWWA or equivalent, In general, the following factors shall be considered in designing conduits: carrying capacity, maximum pressures, present and future water hammer, hydraulic grade, traffic loads, laying conditions, expansion and contraction, anchorage at bends and joints, and depth of cover. 6. PAINTING a. The use of paints containing lead or mercury should be avoided, In order to facilitate identification of piping, particularly in the large plants, it is suggested that the different lines be color-coded. 7. BARRA “KS AND SCREENS Screening Protection for pumps and other equipment shall be provided by trash racks, coarse bar racks, or coarse screens, Inlet Bar Screens a. A removable stainless barscreen with drying rack shall be provided at the discharge point of the raw wastewater influent pipe. The screen shall be fabricated of 3/8 inch (10mm) diameter round bar with 5/8 inch (16mm) diameter openings, Bar Spacing a. Manually Cleaned Screens - Clear openings between bars should be from 25 mm (1 inch) to 45 mm (1 % inch). Design and installation shall be such that they ean be conveniently cleaned. 12 0f24 WWTP Design, Construction & Material Specifications ylasa, , b, Mechanical Screens - Clear openings for mechanically cleaned screens may be as small as 15 mm (0.6 inch). Mechanical screens are recommended where the installation is not regularly supervised or where an increase in head results in plant bypass. Slope and Velocity a, Manually cleaned screens, except those for emergency use, should be placed on a slope of 30 to 45 degrees with the horizontal. b. At design average flow conditions, approach velocities should be no less than 1.25 feet per second (0.4 m/s), to prevent settling; and no greater than 3.0 fps (0.9 mis) to prevent forcing material through the openings. Materials a. Materials for bar screens shall depend on the type of sewage. All components subject to wear, which come in contact with the wastewater, shall be made from 3161 stainless steel. 8 CHANNELS a. Dual channels shall be provided and equipped with the necessary gates to isolate flow from any screening unit. Provisions shall also be made to facilitate dewatering each unit, The channel preceding and following the sereen shall be shaped to eliminate stranding and settling of solids b. Manually cleaned screen channels shall be protected by guard railings and deck gratings, with adequate provisions for removal or opening to facilitate raking. ©. Mechanically cleaned screen channels shall be protected by guard railings and deck gratings. Consideration should also be given to temporary access arrangements to facilitate maintenance and repair. 9. ACCESS AND VENTILATION a. Access - Screens located in pits more than 4 feet (1.2 m) deep shall be provided with stairway access. Access ladders are acceptable for pits less than 4 feet (1.2 m) deep, in lieu of stairways, b. Ventilation - Screening devices, installed in a building where other equipment or offices are located, shall be isolated from the rest of the building, be provided with separate outside entrances, and be provided with separate and independent fresh air supply. 13 of 24 oc . salSpeciteato,, (DU@saA WWTP Design, Construction & Material Specifications © Fresh air shall be forced into enclosed soreening device areas ot into open pits more than 4 feet (1.2 m) deep. Where continuous ventilation is required at least 12 complete air changes per hour shall be provided. Where continuous ventilation would cause excessive heat loss, intermittent ventilation of at least 30 complete air changes per hour shall be provided when personnel enter the area. The air change requirements shall be based on 100 percent fresh air, Switches for operation of ventilation equipment should be marked and located conveniently. All intermittently operated ventilation equipment shall be interconnected with the respective pit lighting system. ‘The fan wheel shall be fabricated from non-sparking material, Explosion proof gas detectors shall be provided. 10, ODOUR CONTROL a. Provide odour control with appropriate ventilation system designed to minimize the odour level in the Inlet Works working area, To protect working staff from gas inhalation risks, H2S gas detector shall be supplied with visual and audible alarms b. Odour control may be achieved by isolation of the areas having odour problems and ventilating it separately or by providing direct ventilating capability at the source of odour. Alternatively, the air blower(s) ait intake can be connected to the Inlet Works ventilation system for the removal of the odour and the air is used in a separate coarse air bubble aeration system in the aeration tank. ¢. Where odour control is not feasible, provide odour treatment in the alternate with gas scrubbing system, which may be chemical or biological unit, d. The need for odour control facilities shall be evaluated for each plant, Factors to be considered are the dissolved oxygen level of the incoming sewage and the type of treatment process proposed, When required, air supply must be sufficient to maintain 1.0 meg/litre of dissolved oxygen in the wastewater. At the outlet of the odour treatment system, the concentration of pollutants must be lower than the following values: 2S Pollitant "3 SESS Concentration (mgm). WALKWAYS 12, ‘The wastewater treatment facility shall be equipped with a walkway running the full length of the plant. The walkway shall be fabricated from hot dipped galvanized steel in maximum 4 foot (1.2m) sections with openings to diffuser valves. The walkway shall be located so that all equipment is accessible from the walkway for maintenance, service and repair purposes. STAIRWAYS Stairways shall be installed in lieu of ladders for access to units requiring routine inspection and maintenance, such as digesters, trickling filters, aeration tanks, clarifiers, tertiary filters, etc. i Stairways shall have slopes between 30 and 40 degrees from the horizontal to facilitate carrying samples, tools, ete. Each tread and riser shall be of uniform dimension in each flight. Minimum tread run shall not be less than 9 inches (230 mm). The sum of the tread run and riser shall not be less than 17 inches (430 mm) nor more than 18 inches (460 mm). A flight of stairs shall consist of not more than a 12-foot (3.7 m) continuous rise without a platform. At the very minimum, any fixed stairway shall be able to carry safely a moving concentrated load of 1000 pounds. If nosing is provided, it shall be no less than 20mm but no more than 32mm on stairways with solid risers, and beveling (radius of curvature) of the nosing at the landing edge of the tread shall not exceed 10mm, "Stair treads." All treads shall be reasonably slip-resistant and the nosings shall be of nonslip finish, Welded bar grating treads without nosings are acceptable providing the leading edge can be readily identified by personne! descending the stairway and provided the tread is serrated or is of definite nonslip design. Rise height and tread width shall be uniform throughout any flight of stairs including any foundation structure used as one or more treads of the stairs. A\ll fixed stairways shall have a minimum width of 22 inches (560mm). Vertical clearance above any stair tread to an overhead obstruction shall be at least 7 feet (2.13mm) measured from the leading edge of the tread, 15 0f 24 WWTP Design, Construction & Material Specifications qlvasar hb, Intermediate landings and platforms on stairways shall be no less than the stair width and a minimum of 30 inches (762mm) in length measured in the direction of travel, Conerete for the stair treads and landings shall be concrete weighing not less than 120 pounds per cubic feet, with a minimum compressive strength at 28days of 4,000psi. Maximum aggregate size shall be 3/8inches (ASTM. 33, Size No. 8). A mix of aluminium oxide and silicone carbibe grit particles can be included to provide a non-slip tread surface ‘Treads and landings shall receive a “troweled finish” in combination with a “non-slip finish” with “very flat” tolerances as specified in ACI 301 (American Concrete Institute: Standard Specifications for Structural Conerete) and ACI 117 (Standard Specifications for Tolerances for Conerete Construction and Materials). {tet 30° 40" slope ies (itstoped) Min 20mm am ro 0mm Max 13. STAIR RAILINGS/HANDRAILS AND GUARDS Hand rails and guards around tanks, trenches, pits, stairwells, and other hazardous structures with the tops of walls less than 42 inches (1070 mm) above the surrounding ground level; Every flight of stairs having four or more risers must be equipped with standard stair railings or standard handrails as follows: * The width of the stair must be measured clear of all obstructions except handrails, * Stairways less than 44 inches (1.12m) wide having both sides enclosed must be equipped with at least one handrail, preferably on the right side descending. "Stairways less than 44 inches (1.12m) wide having one side open must be equipped with at least one stair railing on open side. + Stairways less than 44 inches (1.12m) wide having both sides open, must be equipped with one stair railing on each side. TORBOARDS: a. A standard toe-board must be minimum 4 inches (100mm) in height from its top edge to the level of the floor, platform, runway or ramp. It must be securely fastened in place and with not more than 1/4-inch (6.4mm) clearance above floor level. It may be made of any substantial material either solid or with openings not over 1 inch (25mm). b, Where material is piled to such height that a standard toeboard does not provide protection, paneling must be provided from the floor to the intermediate rail or to the top rail. DIFFUSER SYSTEM a. The Wastewater Treatment Plant shall be equipped with an air diffuser system consisting of an air header, drop pipes, flow regulating valves and diffuser assemblies. Each drop pipe shall be equipped with a union to allow easy removal of the assemblies and a flow-regulating valve in order to control the flow dispersed to each of the diffuser drop pipes, b, The air headers shall be fabricated of 3-inch diameter SCH 40 galvanized steel pipe. Diffuser drop pipes shall be fabricated from I-inch diameter SCH 40 galvanized steel pipe. 17, EQUIPMENT REDUNDANCY a. Auxiliary power facilities are required for all plants, unless dual power supply arrangements can be made or unless it can be demonstrated that the plant is located in an area where electric power reliability is such that power failure for a period to cause deterioration of effluent quality is unlikely. Acceptable alternatives to auxiliary power include the ability to store influent flow or partially treated wastewater during power outage. Auxiliary power is required for plants discharging near drinking water reservoirs, shellfish waters, areas used for contact reereation, and for plants discharging into environmentally sensitive are 21 of 24 b. WASTEWATER TANK SPECIFICATIONS Tank Structure ‘The materials, design, fabrication, and erection of the bolted steel tank shall conform to AWWA D103-97, to the Principles of Standard Specification 12B of the American Petroleum Institute, or to Columbian’s specifications which are de- rived from engineering principles, industry experiences, and the aforementioned standards and specifications. Steel i, Sheet, Steel sheets shall conform to or shall be at least equal to hot- rolled quality per ASTM AS70 Grade 33 with a minimum yield strength of 33,000 psi. Minimum thickness shall be 12 gauge (0.0972” minimum) ii, Plate, Steel plates shall conform to or at least be equal to the requirements of ASTM A36 with a minimum yield strength of 36,000 psi iii, Rolled Structural Shapes, Rolled structural shapes shall conform to ASTM A36. b. Neoprene backed steel washers shall be provided at all bolts in contact with the stored liquid. No mastic sealant shall be used as the primary method of sealing the tank. * Note — EPDM shall be used where it has better resistance to the chemicals present. Multiple Row Punching Alll sheets in the shell of the tank that require multiple vertical row punching (double or triple) must be in single stroke to insure proper alignment. Appurtenances a, The contractor shall furnish and install the appurtenances as shown on the contract drawings and as specified below. b. Unless otherwise noted, standard appurtenances shall be as follows: i, Inlet and Outlet Connections - Inlet, outlet, and overflow connections shall conform to the sizes and locations specified on the plan sheets. fi, Outside Tank Ladder - An outside OSHA ladder shall be furnished at the location designated, iii, Galvanized Handrail and Toeboard - Handrail and toeboard around the deck perimeter shall be installed as specified on the plan sheets.
