NANOTECHNOLOGY
Definition
Nanotechnology is the study and manipulation of

SOCIAL SCIENCE CLASS | LAMFORD SCHOOL

matter at a scale of about 1 to 100 nanometers. It
involves characterization, design, and production of
structures, devices, and systems with unique properties
by fine-tuning the physical, chemical, mechanical, and
optical properties of materials at the nanoscale
(Department of Science and Technology, 2015).

Stained glass is made of
silica sand (silicon
dioxide) that is super-
heated until it is molten.
Colors are added to the
molten glass by tiny
(nano-sized) amounts of
minerals—gold, copper,

Ceramic luster glaze is an
overglaze that comes in a
variety of finishes
(including gold, silver,
platinum, and mother of

is applied to an already
glazed and fired surface.
