What is encryption?

Encryption is a way of scrambling data so that only authorized parties can understand
the information. In technical terms, it is the process of converting human-readable
plaintext to incomprehensible text, also known as cipher text. In simpler terms,
encryption takes readable data and alters it so that it appears random. Encryption
requires the use of cryptographic key: a set of mathematical values that both the sender
and the recipient of an encrypted message agree on.

Why is encryption important?

Encryption plays an important role in securing many different types of
information technology (IT) assets. It provides the following:

 Confidentiality encodes the message's content. To protect information getting

into the wrong hands you would encrypt the data

 Authentication verifies the origin of a message.

 Integrity proves the contents of a message have not been changed since

it was sent. Information hash digests are used for validating that information was not
tampered with

 Nonrepudiation prevents senders from denying they sent the encrypted

message. Actions can be cryptographically tied to users via digital signatures, leading
to definite proof of subjects for any given action

Today, with the growth of internet access, the number of hackers who search for suspicious
networks has also increased considerably. 2 out of 10 people experienced certain kinds of
cybercrime in Mexico in 2016. Approximately 70% of victims affected by this criminal activity
were faced with issues such as unauthorized download, identity theft, and improperly
accessing financial details on their computers. So protecting Confidential Data is more
important for life.

What are the benefits of encryption?

There are several benefits to using encryption, including:

1. Security - Encrypting data makes it more difficult for unauthorized individuals to

access the information. This can help protect sensitive information, such as financial
records or personal information, from being accessed by hackers or other
cybercriminals.
2. Privacy - Encryption helps protect the privacy of individuals by making it difficult for
others to access their personal information. This can be particularly important when
transmitting sensitive information over the internet or storing it on devices that are
vulnerable to being hacked.
3. Compliance - In some cases, encryption is required by law to protect certain types of
information, such as medical records or credit card information. Using encryption can
help organizations meet these legal requirements and avoid penalties for non-
compliance.
4. Trust - Encryption can help build trust with customers, clients, and other stakeholders
by demonstrating a commitment to protecting sensitive information. This can be
particularly important for businesses and organizations that handle large amounts of
sensitive data.
