Delegates, we all know that above all impacts of climate change, the

most catastrophic is the form being taken by water. The Dutch

delegation would again mention that the Netherlands is among the
countries most susceptible to the damage caused from water calamities
due to the fact that the country has an average elevation of just 30m and
about one-third of its total area lies below sea level. Rising sea levels,
torrential rain and soil subsidence put 60% of the country at risk of
flooding, including major cities.

The Dutch have been working on measures to resist and prevent water
calamities since the past 55 years or so and are now confident in their
abilities to withstand a sea level rise of up to 77cm while conscious of
the fact that climate change has a huge impact on the world as a whole
and the consequences of this will also be felt by the Netherlands.

Thus, all the countries are solicited to formulate suitable policies to

overcome the climate crisis and adapt to its repercussions already
visible.
