POOR/INEFFICIENT URBAN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS AND INEFFECTIVE

BUDGET ALLOCATION FOR MASS TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION CRISIS

SHORATGE OF PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

By writing this letter, we would like to express our sincere intention to voice our proposal as
advocacy groups in addressing the common problem on our public transportation systems. In line
with this, we are Christine Mae J. Levida, Ma. Michaela Angeline M. Mangune, and Erica Joy B.
Muksan, are second-year students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Far
Eastern University in Manila.

Transportation issues have long been critical in our country, even before the Pandemic.
However, the COVID-19 situation worsens the issues for both passengers and transportation
providers. The scenario aggravates the economic hardship in both sectors by worsening the state
of inadequate urban transportation systems. However, there are ongoing programs attempting to
address the issues, but new restrictions adapting to the new normal significantly impact its
effective implementation. In order to enable a smoother implementation of their programs,
transportation authorities should increase their capability and refine their systems for the benefit
of commuters and transit sectors.

Problems with having adequate and effective public transportation have been vital in our country
way back before the Pandemic crisis. However, the COVID-19 situation worsens the issues for
both passengers and transportation providers. The scenario aggravates the economic hardship in
both sectors by worsening the state of inadequate urban transportation systems. If the public
transportation system's quality is not radically transformed, it will result in an insufficient supply
of low-quality public transportation and unsafe and congested traffic conditions (Mariano, 2018).

However, ongoing programs are attempting to address the issues, but new restrictions were
adapting to the new normal significantly impact its effective implementation. In order to enable a
significant reform and smoother execution of their programs, transportation authorities should
increase their capability and refine their systems for the benefit of commuters and transit sectors.
