PRIMARY PROJECT MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE Centennial College

It is generally accepted that the qualities of composure and leadership are essential for a successful project
manager. My most valuable learning experience came from a six-month internship that I took during my
senior year of college. It consisted of five separate buildings and had a total of 13 stories. This construction
stood out from others in the neighbourhood due to the presence of a glass walkway that connected all five
towers, as well as a glass swimming pool that was positioned in the space between two of the buildings. It
took some time for me to become aware of my surroundings since I lacked both the skills and the
knowledge necessary.

To continue detailing my experiences and challenges, there were a number of hurdles that needed to be
conquered, the most important of which were:

• A lack of necessary information

My team was kind enough to help me in every way they could since they saw that I was a new student with
very little prior experience who had just stepped out of the classroom.

• Inadequate communication

Because there were workers there from all over the country who spoke a variety of languages, there were
several instances of the command being misunderstood, which resulted in delays in the completion of other
responsibilities. For example, one of our customers asked us not to install flooring in his apartment because
he planned to put in his own distinctive flooring. However, the contractor was unable to handle the
information effectively, which led to a loss of time, resources, and money.

• Negligence

I would like to bring to your attention an occurrence that resulted in a delay of about two months for the
project. This was due to the fact that the glass swimming pool located on the top level was not carefully
evaluated while the chemical crack filling was being done.

• The inability to formulate goals and budgets in an efficient manner

The management and architectural teams made a number of changes to the design of the building
throughout the course of the project, which caused it to run behind schedule and ultimately go over its
allotted budget.

• Resources Management

During the course of my internship, there were several occasions in which production had to be paused
because there was a lack of both human and material resources.
• Stability

The safety of buildings is not prioritised sufficiently in India, which has resulted in a number of less
catastrophic accidents. Because of this, I now understand the value of safety.

As a result of the ensuing lockdown that was established due to the spread of the coronavirus, these were
the primary challenges that I encountered during my brief stay in the region.

The key takeaways I gained from my visit to the site were

• Before beginning a project, you should make a plan that details the relevant information and particular
goals you want to achieve.

• Even the most inconsequential particulars demand our utmost focus, as we cannot afford for them to grow
into the primary problem.

• Clear and concise communication is essential to the accomplishment of any endeavour.

• When it comes to project management, the budget and the deadlines are the two most crucial aspects.

• Beginning planning for resource allocation early may have a substantial bearing on the outcome of the
project.

• Having a written agreement between two parties is recommended as a best practise. The following were
some of the additional classes:
