Part 1: Introduction and Interview (3 points –3 minutes)


Topic 1: Tourism
1. What's the most beautiful place you've ever been to?
I think the most beautiful place is Tam Dao in Vinh Phuc province.
2. Do you think it's true that travel broadens the mind?
Of course by travelling you can learn different kind of cultures and you can compare them
with your own culture and it changes your view point about life.
Topic 2: Free Time
1. What sort of music do you listen to? (Why do you enjoy it?)
For me, im interested in pop music cuz it will do the rest.
2. What is the best book you have ever read?
The best book I have ever read is Hat Giong Tam Hon. It talks about challenges and beliefs
in the life.
Topic 3: Television
1. Is television important?
Yes, it’s a part of modern life. We depend on it for entertainment, news, education,
weather, music…
2. What do you usually watch on television?
I usually watch comedy and music video.

Describe someone in your family who you really admire.


You should say:
What relation this person is to you.
What your first memories of this person are.
How often you see this person.
And explain why you admire this person.

I love and admire all the family member equally. But if I had to choose one of them that I admire
the most, I would talk about my dad. Cuz I study far from home so I just can see my dad twice a
month. My dad is a very hard-working person. He gets up pretty early, at about 4.30 and 5 every
morning. He often does exercise and has quick breakfast then goes to the hospital. He works 8 or
10 hours a day. Although my dad has to work super hard but I have never heard him complain
about it. That’s the first reason why I really admire him.

And the second thing that I want to talk about is that my dad is a dedicated husband and father.
He always put his family first. Although he has to works hard but e always make time for his
family. And he is a good role model for me. That’s all!

1. What are the values of family in your country?


The main value of family in my country is the respect for elders. Elders were the leaders in
families, had the strongest influence in decision making, and were respected after for advice

2. How family bonding is necessary for happiness in life?


Family bonding builds confidence, teaches children about interacting with others and create
wonderful memories that last a lifetime.

3. What type of family do you like (nuclear family or extended family)? Why?
I like nuclear family. Living in a nuclear family is more comfortable than in an extended family
cuz I don’t think that it will have many rules.

1. What are the qualities of a good student?
Qualities of a good student are responsible, confident and courteous.
2. Why are you studying English?
Cuz English gives me the knowledge of the world, more opportunities to study in the best
school.
Topic 2: Health
1. What do you often do to keep fit?
I often go jogging anf play badminton with my friends.
2. What are cigarettes harmful to smokers?
It can cause different types of cancer and increase the risk of heart disease.
Topic 3: Tourism
1. Where would you really like to go on holiday in the future? (Why?)
I would like to go to Da Nang. It will be great place for me to visit cuz I like the scenery
and climate there.
2. What do you enjoy doing on holiday?
I like sleeping and travelling with my family.

And explain why you like to spend your free time this way.
I would like to share with you something that I am keen on doing in my leisure time to stay
healthy, which is jogging. I took up this habit about 1 year ago. At that time, I was up to my
ears with study to prepare for my graduation so I was a little bit stressed out. Then I thought
that I needed to do something energetic to release some stress, so I decided to have a crack at
jogging. I often go with my mom or my dad or both of them.

At first, doing this was quite challenging for me because I just sat in front of my computer
every day to complete my homeworks. But after a few days, I got used to jogging and kept
doing it in the evenings. Well, I have to say that this sport has helped me a lot in
strengthening my physical health as well as my mental health. Now, to be honest, I’m quite
satisfied and trying to maintain it. Also, jogging allows me to unwind and enjoy fresh air, and
whenever I go jogging I feel like my mind is being refreshed. In the future, I am going to
keep doing this to stay healthy and maybe I will try some other sports too. That’s all!

1. What are some constructive leisure time activities?


There are many good activities such as: read some good books, learn a new language or play an
instument.

2. How have leisure time activities changed in the last 10 years?


Now, many young people have been spending a lot of their time on computers, smartphone or
televison to relax. Before, if you wanted to relax, you just went for a walk or had a good gossip
with your friends.

3. What type of activity would you suggest to children?


I would suggest they playing outdoor games, visting the museum or the zoo in their country.

1. Do you think the Internet is useful for your work? (Why/Why not?)
Definitely yes! Internet provides me with countless informations from a number of
different sources, it can manage my works effectively.
2. Do you enjoy playing computer games? (Why/Why not?)
Of course yes! Playing computer games help me relaxing and feeling better after stress
hours.
Topic 2: Work
1. What do you think would be the most interesting job to do? (Why?)
From my point of view, the most interesting job would be the job you like, you have a
passion for it.
2. What are the most efficient ways to look for a job?
You can find a job on the internet, or talk to your friends and family, try an internship and
broaden your mind.
Topic 3: Weather
1. How do rainy days make you feel?
It makes me feel relax and “pour” all the bad things all day long.
2. What’s your favourite season of the year?
I like summer. Because in the summer, all my family members have time to go to travel,
enjoy all the wonderful moments.

family members attended it to congratulate me on my special day although they were so
busy. Some of my relatives are living in Ha Noi but they still came back to Thai Binh
province to celebrate my 18th birthday party.
I felt really happy and proud of love was given to me from my family and relatives. My Dad
said that I am old enough to make my own decisions for something though I still need my
parents’ advices for importatnt things and I was given a laptop on that day. I’ll never forget
my 18’s bday, it’s so memorable and was a wonderful time.

1. How have special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, and graduation days changed
in your country?

In the past, when a man and woman decided to get married, they used to go to a monk
and followed some traditional rituals to become husband and wife. Now they need to
register the marriage from a marriage registrar to be declared as husband and wife.
2. Do you think special occasions and festivals are important for a society?
I think definitely yes, festivals are surely the binding force for the society. In lives of people
who are truly dissatisfied, festivals bring in the hope of something good and something new.
Most people forget their issues and come together to celebrate a festival. Even more, with
prayers being associated with each of the festivals, they bring about so much positivity in life.

1. How did you celebrate your last birthday?
My last birthday was held in a restaurant. I invited my best friends, and We had birthday
cake, sang and danced together. My parents and my friends gave me some lovely and
beautiful presents.
2. What’s the most important festival in your country?
One of the most important festivals in my country is the Lunar New Year Festival. it’s the
time when the old year is over and the new year is celebrated.
Topic 2: Television
1. What are some advantages of television?
2. Do you think children watch too much TV these days?
Yes, I think children are spending too much time sitting in front of the telly. Parents these
days are so occupied with work that they don’t have enough time and patience to play with
their kids and they just let the TV do the job.
Topic 3: Technology
1. What do you usually do on the Internet?
2. What are some advantages of the Internet?
Information, knowledge, and learning
Connectivity, communication, and sharing
Address, mapping, and contact information

I was born and grew up in Thai Binh which is a province located in the Northen area of Vietnam.
However, I have been in Ha Noi since I was in university. My parents still live in my hometown and I
visit their home every month. My hometown is both traditional and modern. On the one hand, tradition
is preserved by a number of festivals celebrated by local people, and the locals and authorities preserve
the historical sites for tourism and education.
On the other hand, a whole lot of high-rise buildings as residential places or shopping malls are built,
which turns our little hometown into a worth-living place. People in my country almost grow paddy,
raise animal,… In my heart, I love the town I was born in.

1. In what ways can you improve your hometown?


2. Why do people have a very strong bond with their hometown?
Human beings have a strong bond with the place where they grew up in because they are
familiar with the surroundings and people in their hometown. As we grow up we have created a
lot of memories in that place which gives us wonderful moments when we return to our
hometown.
3. What do people do to remember their hometowns or to keep them alive in their hearts?
One thing people might do is that they try to meet their family and relatives who were of the
same city or they can also keep their hometowns alive in their hearts buy celebrating the
carnival or festivals which were celebrated in the hometown.
