Direction: Explain each question and provide concise answers with some relevant
examples for clarification, if necessary.

1. Define the following:

a. Law
Law signifies a rule applied indiscriminately to all actions. It is a notional pattern of
conduct to which actions do or ought to conform. Law is a large body of rules and regulations, in
broader sense, ‘law’ denotes the whole process by which organized society, through government
bodies and personnel. Law is a system that regulates and ensures that individuals or a community
adhere to the will of the state. Furthermore, the law is enforced by way of systems of sanctions
administered through persons and institutions, which all help in compelling us to obey.

b. Culture
Culture is a way of life. The food we eat, the clothes we wear, the language we speak in
and the God we worship all are aspects of culture. In very simple terms, we can say that culture
is the embodiment of the way in which we think and do things. It is also the things that we have
inherited as members of society. Culture is the integrated pattern of human knowledge belief and
behavior that depends upon the capacity for learning and transmitting knowledge to succeeding
generations.

c. Religion
Etymologically, the word ‘religion’ is derived from the Latin root religare and it means ‘to
bind fast’. Then ‘religion’ has certainly a strong emphasis on community aspect. It is something
that binds fast the members of it together. religion, human beings’ relation to that which they
regard as holy, sacred, absolute, spiritual, divine, or worthy of especial reverence. It is also
commonly regarded as consisting of the way people deal with ultimate concerns about their lives
and their fate after death.

2. In your own experience, which of the three (law, religion and culture) do you think has
been the most influential, in terms of it directing you to act in certain ways rather than
others? Kindly explain your answer.
The law, religion and culture all played a big part through directing and adapting within
our society and within our self. Though, within my own perspective and experience throughout
my 19 years of existence, ‘religion’ influenced me the most. I’m not a religious person but I
respect the aspect of my religion and to what I believe in. My own beliefs and traits. It is easy to
identify what’s right from wrong but the consequences of it is another story. I am living my life
through the influence of religion directing me to act not differently but uniquely. I believe from
the influence of God not the influence of people. Either way, religion thought me to act with my
own privilege in life to what I value and what ethics ought me to know and to learn. “The word
religion is not an exclusive rather it is inclusive”, so many things people believe in and thought
to believe. But religion shows things from my own perception and intellect.
