Albeit mostly arbitrary, units of measurement are standardized numbers assigned

objectively to accurately and precisely indicate the magnitude of specific aspects of an object.
For this experiment, length, weight, volume, and temperature were measured amongst various
objects. Of that, length, the measure of how long one point to another is, temperature, the
measure of how hot or cold it is, and mass, the amount of matter an object has, are SI base
units. Meanwhile, volume is the three-dimensional space an object takes up, derived from
length (National Institute of Standards and Technology, 2011).

There are two commonly used systems of measurement, the International System of
Units and the imperial system. The units in these systems can be converted to one another
through dimensional analysis, as the amounts are equal but expressed in different ways
between these two. Thus, the correct instruments and formulas must be used for determining
and converting units within their respective systems. For instance, thermometers are meant to
measure temperature due to the principle of thermal expansion. The substance inside the
thermometer, typically made of mercury or alcohol, occupies greater volume whenever it
reaches hotter temperatures (Ling, Sanny, & Moebs, 2022), thus displaying and determining the
temperature. Additionally, the boiling point of water in the experiment was seen to be lower than
the standard boiling point, which may be due to the location where the experiment was done.
The location, Baguio City, is elevated over 1.4 kilometers (Government of Baguio, n.d.), which
means that it has lower atmospheric pressure than places at sea level. Lower atmospheric
pressure means the lesser weight of the air pushing down on an object (Breslyn, 2019), in this
case, the water molecules, therefore allowing the liquid molecules of water to be more spread
out and turn into gas and boil.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, this experiment has demonstrated how to measure three SI base units, which are
length, temperature, and mass, and one SI-derived unit, which is volume. Conversion of these
units from the International System of Units to the English system or Imperial system, and vice
versa, was also done through dimensional analysis. Necessary equipment is also important to
measure accurately. This experiment also showed that water boils at a lower temperature than
the standard, which the laboratory experimenters agreed that it was because of the elevation of
the location of the experiment having lower atmospheric pressure.

RECOMMENDATION
The group recommends the following:
- Take into account the location of the experiment, as most of the time, there are factors
that can change the values of the experiments from the desired theoretical values, which
are mostly overlooked.
- Always put the units beside the measurement, as these units are specific to its
measures.
