1. After reading the learning materials, is the Philippine government on the right track of
protecting our environment?

The writer becomes enraged while reading the following educational and learning
materials about how government policies affect the environment since the Secretary of
Environment Roy Cimatu has approved and is preparing to open these mining companies. As we
all know, mining companies in the Philippines operate irresponsibly, harming the environment
and the people. Secretary Cimatu approved the mining companies after the environmental rights
advocate Gina Lopez ordered the closure of 26 mining companies because of violations of the
Philippine Mining Act. (Villanueva, R.) According to (Geronimo, J. Y.), Gina Lopez was
passionate about this issue; she was not anti-mining but opposed to the suffering of people living
in mining communities, as stated by DENR secretary Patricia Arroyo. The Philippine
government, in my opinion, is not doing enough to protect our environment, as evidenced by
their decision to open these mining companies, which are alleged to violate the Philippine
Mining Act. Due to the large scale of these mining companies, they can be destructive. They
employ open-pit mining, which entails clearing thousands of hectares of rainforest and
agricultural lands in the Philippines, which causing hardship for the Filipinos who live in these
areas. The writer can state unequivocally that she supports Gina Lopez in her fight against unjust
mining industries in the Philippines; even though Gina Lopez died on August 19, 2019, the
author believes that what she accomplished for the environment was enormously beneficial and
should continue to be so.

2. Why it is important that we must act on protecting our environment?

Human survival is entirely dependent on the environment. Everything that humans

require is contained within the environment, including electricity, water, and oxygen. While
everyone on the planet receives these resources for free, the people take them for granted every
chance they have. Meanwhile, humans continue to pollute the Earth with poisonous gases
emitted by automobiles, factories, and other sources. That is why citizens must act immediately
and protect the environment every day; thus, the next generation is hopeful that we can turn it
around and save the planet as time is running out. According to (Bonnisseau, N), The
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published an international consensus report
stating that a report in 2018 states that only 12 years remain to reverse climate change. The most
patriotic act anyone can perform is to protect the environment and strive to live sustainably.
Recycling is a positive step toward a brighter future. A healthy environment is precisely what the
world requires at the moment.

3. How does modernization affect our environment? what are do you think are the advantage and
disadvantages of modernization in our environmental?

The advancement of technology has had an impact on how we communicate, learn, and
think. It is beneficial to the country and affects our daily lives. Modern society is heavily reliant
on technology because it simplifies tasks. Keeping this in mind, technological advancement
entails both benefits and drawbacks. To begin, one of the most frequently used terms is
technological advancement. Utilizing abundant technology has stressed Earth's resources;
modernization promotes the widespread use of technology, which consumes enormous amounts
of energy and results in harmful emissions such as air pollution, which contributes to climate
change.
