Unit certificate management

Previously, the Unit Assistant role had 2 responsibilities:

• Pushing firmware to hardware devices
• Maintaining the password database for connections to all hardware

A 3rd feature has now been added:

• Pushing trusted security certificates to hardware devices
Why manage certificates?

Certificates signed by a trusted authority are used by computers like government

issued photo ID is used by people:
To prove who you are.
To prevent camera streams being replaced by some other device, spoofing the
camera, or a Genetec server being replaced by some malicious server, certificates
can be used to validate the authenticity of the communicating parties.

Monitor incoming events

Monitor incoming events

Problem camera
Normal sending flood of
camera events
events

Cameras send video stream and events to the archiver.

Risk: Flooding the DB

Events are written to the archiver’s database.

Faulty hardware, misconfigured analytics, etc. can
send too many events, flooding the database.
Archiver
High event rate

The system can now monitor incoming camera

events to help detect when an unusually high
number of events are being received.

Config Tool  Video task  Roles and units  Resources  Advanced settings…
What to do with the “event”
By itself, an event is nothing more than an entry in a database.
No action occurs automatically.
However, you can link an action to the event

Other possible actions could include:

Send an email, trigger alarm, reboot unit, sound buzzer, etc.
Investigating

The archiver event: High event rate indicates

a problem with one or more cameras.
How can we isolate the problem?

Config Tool  Video task  Archiver role  Resources tab  Statistics  Details

NAT port forwarding SSH Tunnel opened by LPR Mgr

configuration required for LPM port Bidirectional LPM communication over tunnel

Typically, when adding a Sharp license plate reader to the system, the server connects
to the unit over https (port 443) and the unit uses port 10001 for the LPM protocol.
SSH tunnel

For additional security, SharpV license plate readers can

now communicate with the server over an SSH tunnel

Unit replacement tool

Unit replacement enhancements

You can now use the Unit replacement tool to

replace the following units with a second-generation
Synergis™ Cloud Link unit:
• New generation Synergis™ Cloud Link units
• Legacy Synergis™ Cloud Link units
• Synergis™ Master Controller (SMC) units running
Synergis™ Softwire 10.11
• HID V1000 units

Peer to peer

Peer to peer communications between

the hardware themselves is used for 2
features:
Horn/Siren Glass break
• Global antipassback (that is to say, sensor
when an antipassback area is managed by
several controllers) Output Input

• I/O linking across different devices

(example: when this input is closed, I need Peer to peer
that output relay to be active) communication

The new generation of Synergis™ Cloud Link now supports peer-to-peer communication. This
requires Synergis™ Cloud Link firmware 2.0.3 or later.
