EPKK Kraków Balice 2012 is a highly detailed scenery of EPKK John Paul II International Airport in Cracow, Poland. This
product is compatible with FSX and P3D only.
Airport description
There is a famous story about an unusual relation between
two war enemies, which appears to be like a fable nowadays.
It was an early morning of the 1st September 1939. A staff of
a small Balice airfield got an information that Luftwaffe is
going to bomb Cracow city in a few minutes. Captain
Mieczysław Medwecki ran into his P11c plane and
immediately took-off from the field, followed by his wingman
Władysław Gnyś. In the meantime German pilot Frank
Neubert was calmly flying back to Germany from one of his
first air missions. Suddenly he saw two Polish aircrafts taking-
off a field. He decided to take a fight and positioned himself
just behind the first P11c launching two gun series into it. In a
few seconds the Polish plane crash landed on an unknown
field and backflipped. Cpt Medwecki died shortly after the
crash. He is believed to be the first pilot killed in-flight during
the Second World War. His wingman Gnyś tried to catch the
German Junkers Ju 87 however Neubert got away by hiding
into a cloud. A few

John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice (in Polish
since 4 September 2007: Kraków Airport im. Jana Pawła II;
earlier in Polish: Międzynarodowy Port Lotniczy im. Jana
Pawła II Kraków-Balice) (IATA: KRK, ICAO: EPKK) is an
international airport located near Kraków, in the village of
Balice, 11 km (6.8 mi) west of the city centre, in southern
Poland. The airport has one concrete runway, number 07/25,
2550x60m. Runway 07 is open for landing only between
sunrise and sunset. The airport can handle such a large
aircraft as Boeing 747-400.
The airport opened for civil aviation in 1964. EPKK is the
second busiest airport in the country after Warsaw Frederic
Chopin Airport. The airport has good growth prospects, as
almost 8 million people live within 100 km (62 mi) of it. The
airport also has a favourable location on the network of
existing and planned motorways in this region of Poland, but
it faces stiff competition from the nearby EPKT Katowice
International Airport in Pyrzowice and other Polish airports
like EPRZ Rzeszów. In 1995 the airport's name was changed
from Kraków-Balice Airport to John Paul II International
Airport Kraków-Balice, to honor Pope John Paul II who spent
many years of his life in Kraków.

minutes later Władysław Gnyś accidentally met a formation of
German Dorniers Do 17 and managed to shoot down two of
them. Gnyś is believed to be the first Allied Forces pilot who
brought down a German plane during that war.
50 years passed since that day. Frank Neubert made 350
missions (230 on Ju-87) and Władysław Gnyś proudly
positioned himself at the 85th place on the Bajan List,
containing names of the best Polish pilots during the IIWW.
Although the war was over Frank Neubert remembered very
well that day when he attacked the first P11c plane in Balice.
He decided to write a letter to Władysław Gnyś and in 1989
both pilots met again - this time as collegues. Later they
became friends. Władysław Gnyś died in 2000 and Frank
Neubert in 2003 however their children - Ingo Neubert and
Ashley Gnys continue their friendship. And the whole story
started in the same location you are going to virtually place
yourself into after finishing reading this manual and clicking
„Fly Now” in you Flight Simulator.

In 2003, when Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair became
interested in starting a service from the John Paul II
International Airport, the airport authorities refused to reduce
the airport fee. In response, the regional authorities of Kraków
and Lesser Poland Voivodeship decided to build a new airport
near the existing one, using the infrastructure of the military
airbase adjacent to the shared runway. Finally an agreement
was reached, and the existing airport was opened to Ryanair
and other low-cost carriers such as Germanwings, EasyJet
and Centralwings. Over the past number of years low cost
carrier Ryanair have grown services from Krakow Airport and
since May 2010 Ryanair had 20 routes from the airport. The
busiest international routes are to London (Gatwick, Stansted,
Luton) and Dublin. On 28 August 2007, a Ryanair flight from
Shannon suffered a bird strike on its final approch and blew
its front tires during landing, resulting in an airport closure for
a few hours and requiring an emergency evacuation of the
aircraft. There were no injuries and the aircraft sustained no
further damage.
For the next 20 years further expantion of the airport is
planned. Estimated number of passengers for 2015 is 3,5mln,
for 2025 - 6,5 mln.

Installation: Static aircrafts:

We kindly ask you to double-check that you have removed all
the previous sceneries that may influence EPKK area in any
way. Having some lost files concerning that area may cause
crash to desktops. This scenery is equipped with a fully
automated installer. You need only to and then the software
will guide you to the next steps.
The scenery will be automatically added to the Flight
Simulator Scenery Library. In case you have troubles with
that, you can install the airport manually, but that is not
recommended. To do that, in Flight Simulator’s menu go to
Settings, Scenery Library, click Add new scenery and then
select EPKK Krakow Balice 2012 folder. It should be located
in your main FS folder\Addon Scenery folder. As soon as you
add the airport to the Scenery Library, simply click OK
(Windows 7 users might first click on the background of the
folder list window to accept the selection).
Charts:
The product includes customly designed airport diagram with
a parking chart, basic ILS approach and VFR Operation
Chart. Files will be installed in your Start Menu > Programs >
Drzewiecki Design. They are also located in the Documents
folder of the scenery.
The scenery comes with many static aircrafts placed in the
realistic locations. Our static aircrafts are compatible with any
AI traffic and even some of them are visible on our airport
diagram (passenger apron; stand 4, 8 and 12). We
recommend not to remove them until you really need to. If this
is the case, go to your main FS folder\Addon Scenery\EPKK
Krakow Balice 2012\scenery and remove the
EPKK_StaticPlane.bgl file.
Seasonal textures:
Unfortunately there are some limitations in FSX which make
automatic changes of some seasonal textures (like roofs or
custom made trees) impossible. We have created a special
program Drzewiecki Design FSX/P3D Season Switcher
which you can use to change all seasonal textures in all our
FSX/P3D products to a proper season. The program is

Without using this program Fall and Winter seasons in our
FSX and P3D sceneries will look incorrectly.

- Aerosoft's Airport Enhancement Services (AES) compatible

Compatibility:
EPKK Krakow Balice 2012 is compatible with all currently
existing payware add-ons for this area including Ultimate X
and VFR Poland. We are not able to guarantee a
compatibility with all freeware add-ons. For further support
please visit our forum.
Demo:
Demo version of EPKK Krakow Balice 2012 is provided. This
is a fully functional freeware scenery, perfectly alligned with
the full payware version. This ensures no problems with
online (VATSIM, IVAO and multiplayer) flying in case some
users have the payware scenery and some don't. Most
objects are modelled as in the full version but covered with
low resolution textures. Demo sceneries are available on our
website and on other websites with FS add-ons.
