Dear Families,

Virginia’s state assessment program includes the Standards of Learning Tests (SOL) for students in grades 3
through 8, and certain high school credit courses. These tests are based upon the Virginia Standards of
Learning. In high school, students will take End-of-Course (EOC) SOL tests, which will be administered to
students May 2 through June 10, 2022. All EOC SOL tests must be taken in-person at school under the
supervision of a trained test examiner.

Virginia’s public schools are required to follow state and federal regulations that indicate the number of SOL
tests students need to take in order to graduate. Additional information on which tests your child will need to
pass in order to meet graduation verified credit requirements can be found on page two. Students earn
verified units of credit when they pass the course and the associated SOL test. The regulations also require
that every high school student takes EOC SOL tests in reading, math, and Biology.

Prior to test day, please complete the following activities:

● In preparation for SOL testing, students are encouraged to practice. SOL Practice Items are available
at https://va8.testnav.com/client/index.html. These practice items will provide students an
opportunity to become familiar with the types of test items and tools they may encounter on their
SOL tests.
● On testing days, students should bring their fully charged laptop and charger to school. Students
should avoid bringing personal electronic devices into an SOL testing room during an SOL test
administration. Procedures related to these circumstances are described in detail in the Henrico
County Public Schools Policies and Regulations (Chapter 6 Students - Policy P6-08-004-R), which
can be found at https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/henrico/Board.nsf/vpublic?open#. We encourage all
families and students to review these procedures prior to SOL testing.
● In preparation, proper rest and nutrition are essential. Please encourage your child to get a good
night’s rest before his/her testing days and to eat a nutritious breakfast the morning of each test.

Scores on these tests will help you and your child’s school evaluate academic achievement. It is important
that you help your child feel comfortable and positive about taking the Standards of Learning tests.

More information about the Standards of Learning tests is available at http://henricoschools.us/testing/. If

you have questions about the federal, state or division assessment policies, please contact Angela Bell at

your school’s testing processes and options, please contact your school’s principal or school test coordinator
