1. (a)C3H4 and C6H10 belong to the alkynes group. Alkynes are organic molecules made of the functional
group Carbon-carbon triple bonds and are written with the empirical formula of CnH2n-2. They are
unsaturated Hydrocarbons. Molecular formula of an alkyne with five carbon atoms will be C5H [(2x5)-2]
= C5H8 [1]
(b) Allotropism [ 1]
2. The electronic configuration of these elements are :
(a) A ( Z = 7) 2, 5;
B (Z = 8) 2, 6;
C (Z = 9) 2, 7
Position of element A = 15th group and 2nd period
Position of element B = 16th group and 2nd period ‘
Position of element C = 17th group and 2nd period.
(b) In general, atomic size decreases along a period. Therefore, decreasing order of size is A > B > C
(c) The element C (Z = 9) is fluorine. It is the most reactive element since it needs only one electron to
acquire a noble gas configuration [1+1]
3. (a) Ovules develop in to seeds ½

Ovary develops in fruit ½

(b) Transfer of pollen grain from anther to the stigma of a flower [1]

4. Ozone is formed in the stratosphere by the combination of O2 and oxygen atom. [1]
Or the higher energy UV radiation split apart some molecular oxygen (O2) to free oxygen (O) atoms [1]
These atoms combine with the molecular oxygen to form ozone.

Primary producers are autotrophs; they are the only organisms in the ecosystem; which convert sunlight
energy to chemical energy and given as food energy to all consumers in the ecosystem. [1+1=2]

DDT is a non-biodegradable pesticide chemical.
This chemical enters in the food chain by a process of eating and being eaten; leading to bio-magnification.
[1]
The quantity of DDT is magnified ten times in the body of higher organisms.
Here it is bird. This pesticide inhibit the formation of shell in eggs of these birds leading to the extinction
of such birds. [1]

c. If fertilization does not take place, all preparations made in the uterus for receiving young one slowly
breaks and comes out through the vagina as blood and mucous known as menstruation. 1
8. The organic compounds having the same molecular formula but different structures are known as
isomers. Isomers of first three members of alkane series are not possible because only one arrangement
of carbon atoms is possible in their molecules.

9. (a) The element Z is the most reactive metal. 1

(b) The elements are present in group 17. The family is that of halogens. 1
(c) The element argon (Ar) is also present in group 18 1

10. In human, sex is genetically determined out of 23 pairs of chromosomes. One pair is sex chromosome.
This one pair in female is X&X and in male it is X&Y. 1
During gamete formation, female produces only one type of egg ie, egg carrying X chromosome. But
male produces two types of gametes. Sperm carrying X chromosome and sperm carrying Y chromosome.
1
If egg fertilizes with sperm carrying X chromosome, the offspring will be female. If the egg fertilizes
with the sperm carrying Y chromosome, the offspring will be male. So male and female in the ratio 1:1.

11. a. Amount of charge transferred =96000C
Time taken =2hrs=2×60×60sec

=7200sec ½

Potential difference =40V

Heat generated =V×i×t ½

and we know that ; i=tQ

So, H=VQ =40×96000 =3.84×106J

Power =1KW=1000W & Voltage =220 V

P=V×I ½

So, I=VP : I=220 x 1000=4.545A ½

The fuse wire should be able to pass at least 4.545 A current.

Effective resistance of combination= 4 Ω+ 2 Ω = 6Ω ½
Current I = V/R=24 V/6 Ω =4 A ½
b. Since the equivalent resistance of 3Ω and 6Ω is 2Ω, potential difference between the ends of
this resistor is V=4A x 2Ω=8 V

Currents through 6 Ω resistor is I6= 8volt/6Ω=4/3 A=1.33 A ½

Currents through 3 Ω resistor is I3=8volt/3Ω=8/3 A= 2.67A ½

c. Potential difference between the ends of the 4Ω resistance is;

V=Ix R V=4Ax4Ω=16 V 1

13. a. During gamete formation, meiosis occurs in the reproductory organs /gonads. During meiosis, the
homologous chromosome separate and the gamete contain only one from a pair. ie, the gametes are
haploid. Sexual reproduction needs male and female gametes. When these two haploid gametes fuse
together the original DNA content is regained. 1½
