ASSESSMENT TASK

1. What is the significance of Bahay Kubo in Philippines cultural values?

 Bahay Kubo is one of the Philippines' most illustrative and famous icons. In
English, it is called nipa hut, a typical Filipino dwelling place made of real
green materials such as nipa leaves for the roof and split wall and floor
bamboos. There is even a song about it that is famous. These materials, while
lightweight, are durable, versatile, and multifunctional. Bahay kubo, a sign of
togetherness, is considered a cultural heritage. It holds and mirrors much of
the Philippine culture and it is part of many
ceremonies, beliefs and traditions.A Bahay Kubo is a symbol of Philippine
culture as it reflects the 'bayanihan,' the most nurtured Filipino value, an
ancient Filipino tradition of helping each other without the need to ask for it
in the name of friendship and camaraderie. Currently, bahay kubo is the
Philippines' national shelter. It was also the influence of the 'Bahay
Kubo' ,kundiman, which almost all Filipinos know.

2. Why are there no partition for rooms in Bahay Kubo, Ifugao Bale, and Bahay
na Bato? What do these symbols?

 Bahay na bato or Casa Filipino, with mainly Spanish Philippines and some
Malay and Chinese influence, is a noble version of bahay kubo. Throughout
the ages, his design evolved but maintained its architectural roots in the nipa
hut. Its most common appearance is like the stilt nipa hut that stands as a
foundation instead of wood or bamboo stilts on Spanish style stone blocks or
bricks.Today these houses are more commonly called Ancestral houses, due
to most ancestral houses in the Philippines are bahay na bato.
The Ifugao houses called Bale were generally similar in traditional
architecture, but depending on the tribes, they differ in decorative details.
With the contours of the Rice Terrace, their houses were harmoniously
placed. The Ifugao one-room house is commonly known as fale to them.
There seems to be nothing but a pyramid resting on four posts on the outside
of the house, while the inner space is enclosed by slanting walls and ceilings
that seem to be spherical, formed by the basement.
The Bahay na Bato and Ifugao Bale does not have partition for rooms to
accommodate the entire extended family which the entire space is used for
eating, living are and sleeping. Filipino families are known to be closed-knit
families because typical Filipino parents have struggles letting their kids go.
They also want their children to live with them, even though their children
are already married and have children of their own.
