please arrange your chairs and pick
some piece of trash under your tables.
(The learners will arrange themselves and
their chairs)
2. Checking of Attendance
Secretary of the class, tell me who are the
absent for today.
I am gladly to tell you teacher that’s no one
is absent for our class today.
Wow! It’s nice to hear that!
3. Checking of Assignment
Okay thank you, last meeting I gave you
assignment, right?
Yes teacher!
Okay, for those who have an assignment
pass it in front quietly. And I will be the
one to check that.
(Students will pass their assignments)
Assignment:
Write the correct unit of measurement to
be
use in each item. Choose your answer
from
the words in the box.

Centimeter Gram Liter

Milliliter Meter
Kilogram Kilometer

Gram 1. Mass of half cup of rice.

Kilometer 2. Length of an entire
highway.
Kilogram 3. Mass of cow.
Liter 4. Volume of water used by family
for a
week.
Centimeter 5. Length of the side of a
notebook.
Gram 6. Mass of one can of sardines.
Kilogram 7. Mass oof a sack of rice.
Meter 8. Length of your teacher’s table.
Milliliter 9. Volume of a glass of water.
Gram 10. Mass of a candy bar.

4. Review
Learners, do you still have remembered
our
last lesson? Yes teacher!

If you really remember, what it is all

about? Teacher It's all about how to measure the mass,
Anyone? Yes? volume, and length of an objects.

Very Good!
Now if you really understand our topic
last time, can you give some examples of
units for measurement? Yes?
Gram and kilogram teacher
That’s right! What else?
Milliliter and Liter teacher
Very good! What else?
Miter and Centimeter teacher
Very good! There is one more? Yes?
Kilometer teacher
Excellent! Thank you everyone
5. Drill
What I have here is a different picture of
an instrument. What you need to do is to
identify what is being measured by each
of the following instruments. Just make
this sign if your answer is length, and
this sign if your answer is mass, and
this sign if your answer is volume. Is
that clear?
Yes teacher!
1.

(Volume)

Very good!

2.
(Length)

That’s correct!

3.
(Length)

Excellent!

4.

(Mass)

Right, it is used to measure mass

5.

(Volume)

Very good!

Now I already proved that you learned

our topic in our previous class.
6. Connection of the new and past
In our previous lesson, we tackled how to
measure the mass, volume, and length of
objects using the different units. Am I
correct?
Yes teacher!
After knowing the different units of
measurement, we are going to get better at
classifying objects based on their states
and characteristics. Are you excited for
our new lesson?
Yes teacher!
7. New lesson objectives
At the end of this lesson, 85% of learners
should be able to:
1.Identify the state of matter based on its
characteristics
2.Recognize the different kinds of matter
in the environment.
3.Group the common objects found at
home and school according to solid,
liquid, and gas.
8. Background knowledge of the learners
Before we start our lesson for today, we
will be going to have a simple activity.
(The teacher will post the materials on the
board)
1-A, 2-B, 3-C, 4-D, 5-E, 6-F, 7-G, 8-H,
9-I, 10-J, 11-K, 12-L, 13-M, 14-N, 15-O, 16-
P, 17-Q, 18-R, 19-S, 20-T, 21-U, 22-V, 23-
W, 24-X, 25-Y, 26-Z

19 20 1 20 5 19 15 6

13 1 20 20 5 18

Now we will be going to decode this

numbers to form a new word. And
each numbers have an equivalent letter
that is found in box. Do you understand
learners?

Very Good! Yes teacher!

Let’s begin.
(The teacher will call the names of his
students one-by-one on the board until the
numbers are already decoded)

S T A T E S O F
19 20 1 20 5 19 15 6

M A T T E R
13 1 20 20 5 18

Very Good learners!

The numbers are already decoded.
Now can you all please read the words
that were formed on the board?
Excellent!
STATES OF MATTER
And that is our topic for today.
Learners, have you already tackled this
topic in your previous grade level? Or do
It's about solid, liquid, and gas teacher.
you have any ideas about this topic? Yes?
(Students that have advanced knowledge about
the topic)
Thank you! Let's see. What else? Yes?
Teacher It is about the different states of an
Object.
Thank you for sharing your ideas.
Let's first do a warm-up activity. What I
have here are 3 real objects. What you
need to do is to observe the object. Is that
clear?
Yes teacher!

Okay, let's start.

The first one is….

What is this? Just raise your hand if you

want to answer. Yes?
That is a wallet teacher
Very good, this is a wallet.
What do you observe? Anyone yes?
Teacher, the wallet is color black.
Very good! What else?

Very good! The shape of the wallet is squire.

The next object is……

What is this? Yes?

That is a water teacher
Yes, this is a water! But this object? Yes?
That is a bottle.
Correct! It is a battle.
What can you say about the water inside
the bottle? Yes?
The water is clean.
Very good! Does the water in the bottle
have the same shape?
YES
Very good!
The last one we
have…….
Yes?
That is a balloon
Correct! What can you say about the
balloon? Anyone? Yes?
The color of the balloon is blue
Good observation! What do you think is
inside the balloon? Other hand pleas. Yes?
There is air inside the balloon
Very good!
B. The Lesson Proper
1. Presentation
We call these three objects matter
Everybody says matter
MATTER!
Very good!
(The teacher present instructional
material)

What is matter?
MATTER - Is anything that has mass and
occupies space.
Meaning all the things surround us or
everything around you are matter.
All the things inside this classroom are all
matter.
This ballpen, table, chair, white board is
all matter.
The air you breath, the water you drink
and the food you eat they are all matter.

Matter is made up of tiny particle called

molecules.

These particles are so tiny that we cannot

see them with just our eyes.

Remember that all objects are made up of

molecules.

This object is made up of

molecules, this called water molecules.

Again, what is matter?

MATTER IS ANYTHING THAT HAS MASS
AND OCCUPIES SPACE
Very good!
Matter is made up of what? Anyone? Yes?
Matter is made up of particle
Correct!
Matter is made up of tiny particle called.
What? Yes?
Molecules teacher!
Excellent!
There are three different states of matter.
These are solid, liquid, and gas.
I will explain it one by one.

The first one is SOLID!

Everybody says SOLID!
SOLID!
What are the characteristics of solid
object?
- YOU CAN SEE
Solid are the object that you can see
What else?
- YOU CAN HOLD
Remember anything that you can see, and
you can hold are solid
And last solid object has definite shape
- HAS DEFINITE SHAPE

I have here the different examples of

solid:
Notebook
Ballpen
Wallet
These are all examples of solid. We can
see them, we can hold, and they have
definite shape. Now, can you give some
examples of solid objects that you can see
inside this classroom?
Anyone? Yes?
Books teacher
Very good! What else? Yes?
A television teacher
Correct! Last one, yes?
A table teacher
Very good!
Let’s now go to the second one. The
second states of matter is LIQUID!
Everybody says LIQUID
LIQUID!
The first characteristics of liquid is
- YOU CAN SEE
You can see it, just like a solid, but
- YOU CANNOT HOLD
You cannot hold it. You can touch it, but
you can't hold it.
Next is
- NO DEFINITE SHAPE
It has no definite shape
Because it follows the shape of its
container.
(The teacher presents an example)
The last characteristics is
- IT FLOWS
Liquid flow
Remember, this is one of the most
important characteristics of solid

I have here different examples of objects

that are liquid:
Coffee
Milk
Juice
Water
All this thing flow.
We can see them, we can't hold them, they
don’t have a definite shape, and they flow.
Now, can you give some examples of
liquid objects that you can find inside
your house?
Anyone? Yes?
Soft drink teacher!
Very good! What else? Yes?
Soy Sauce teacher!
Correct!
We already had the first 2 states of matter
Again, what is the first state of matter?
SOLID!
And the second state of matter is?
LIQUID!
Very good!
Okay lets now move to the third state of
matter which is GAS!
Everybody says GAS!
GAS!
The first characteristics of gas is
- YOU CANNOT SEE
You cannot see gas
Can you give one example of a gas? Yes?
Air teacher!
Very good! Air is a good example of gas,
we cannot see air
Next
- YOU CANNOT HOLD
You cannot hold gas object
Can you touch the air?
NO!
Correct! You cannot touch air
But...
- YOU CAN FEEL
You can feel gas object
Can we feel the Air?
YES!
Correct! We can feel air.
Last
- NO DEFINITE SHAPE
Same with liquid, gas follow the shape of
its container.
I have examples of objects with gas
inside. They may look solid from the
outside, but let us talk about the things
that are inside:
Ball
Balloon
Remember, we cannot see and hold gas
objects, and they don’t have definite
shapes, but we can feel gas objects.

After knowing the different characteristics

of the states of matter, let's now proceed
to the arrangement of molecules in solid,
liquid, and gas.

Again, what is molecules? Anyone?

It is a tiny particle that makes up the matter.
Very Good!
(The teacher presents a model that shows
how molecules arrange in solid, liquid,
and gas.)
What can you notice about the
arrangement of molecules in solid? Yes?
The molecules are very close to one another
Correct! The arrangement of molecules in
solid is very close to one another or
tightly packed, therefore solids have
definite shapes.
How about the arrangement of molecules
in liquid, what can you say? Yes?
The molecules are not very close to one another
Correct! In liquid, the arrangement of
molecules are less closely packed. That is
why liquid have no definite shape.
How about in gas? What can you say
about the arrangement? Yes?
The molecules are far apart from one another
Correct! The molecules are far apart from
one another. They push the walls of their
container to completely fill its shape.

Now we know how molecules are

arranged in each state of matter.
2. Performing Activities
I have here different pictures of different
objects. I also have 3 boxes labeled
"solid," "liquid," and "gas." What you
need to do is put the picture in the right
box, but you need to tell the name of this
object first before you put it in the
corresponding box.

(The students will perform the activity)

GAS LIQUID SOLID

(The different
pictures of an
object are
found MATTER
inside the
matter
box)

Excellent learners! Give yourself a round

of applause.
3. Values Infusion
Attentiveness
Cooperation
Self-confident
C. After the Lesson
1. Wrup-up Activities
Learners, please get your notebook and
answer this activity.
(The teacher will post material)

Directions: Read each statement carefully.

Write T if the statement is True and F if it is
False. Answer only.
T 1. All the things around you are matter.
F 2. Matter is made up of tiny particles called
protons.
T 3. Gas takes the shape of their containers.
T 4. The molecules of solids are very close to
one another.
F 5. The molecules of liquid are far apart
from one another.

Okay let’s check!

2. Application
Group Activity

I will be going to divide the class into three

groups, and I will give a ¼ cartolina in each
group. You will be going to draw some examples
of solids, liquids, and gases. Write down the
name next to the object. Did you understand
learners?
YES TEACHER!
GROUP 1 – SOLID
GROUP 2 –LIQUID
GROUP 3 – GAS

But before we start let’s read the rules in doing

group activity.
(Teacher will paste the rules doing group activity
on the board)
I’ll give you 10 minutes to do your assigned
task. Did you understand learners?
YES TEACHER!
You may now go to your group and start
doing your assigned task.

Individual Activity

(The teacher distributes the printed materials)

Direction: Identify whether each of the

following object is a solid, a liquid, or a gas.

SOLID LIQUID

GAS SOLID

LIQUID SOLID

LIQUID GAS

SOLID GAS

Miss Secretary, please collect the papers of your

classmates.
(The secretary of the classroom will collect the
paper, and she will submit it to the teacher)
3.Generalization
Did you understand our lesson for today?
YES TEACHER!
Now if you really understand our topic
Can you give me the meaning of matter?
Yes? Matter is anything that has mass and occupies
Space
Very good!
And what are the different states of
matter? Yes?
Solid, Liquid, and Gas teacher.
Correct! Can you give one characteristic
of solid object? Anyone? Yes?
We can hold solid objects.
Correct! What else? Yes?
A solid object has a definite shape.
Verry good!
How about liquids? What are the
characteristics of liquid objects?
Liquid object has no definite shape.
What else?
Liquid object flow.
Very good! And liquids follow the shape
of its containers.

How about the gas? What are the

characteristics of gas? Yes?
We cannot see gas objects.
Correct! But we can feel the gas.
What else? Yes?
Gas has no definite shape.
Very good!
