What Is Anti-Bullying?
Anti-bullying refers to laws, policies, organizations, and movements aimed at
stopping or preventing bullying. Bullying is a situation where a person, called a bully,
verbally or physically threatens or assaults a person, causing the person to feel a real or
perceived power imbalance. Bullying can cause a person to feel extreme distress. It may
lead to changes in sleep and dietary habits. It can even put someone at greater risk for
committing suicide. This is why it's so important to prevent bullying.

How to Prevent Bullying?

Parents, school staff, and other caring adults have a role to play in preventing bullying.
They can:

⮚ Help kids understand bullying. Talk about what bullying is and how to stand up to it
safely. Tell kids bullying is unacceptable. Make sure kids know how to get help.
⮚ Keep the lines of communication open. The language we use to talk about bullying truly
matters when we talk with children and youth about these issues.
⮚ Check in with kids often. Listen to them. Know their friends, ask about school, and
understand their concerns.
⮚ Encourage kids to do what they love. Special activities, interests, and hobbies can
boost confidence, help kids make friends, and protect them from bullying behavior.
⮚ Model how to treat others with kindness and respect.

Anti-Bullying Act of 2013

Republic Act 10627, or the Anti-Bullying Act (the “Act”), aims to protect children
enrolled in kindergarten, elementary, and secondary schools and learning centers
(collectively, “Schools”) from being bullied. It requires Schools to adopt policies to address
the existence of bullying in their respective institutions.
