Vietnam recorded more than 9,000 new cases of a new strain of COVID-19 on

Saturday. The figure was 7,913 on Tuesday, the third day straight with over 7,000
cases following Saturday's peak. Ho Chi Minh City alone detected 6, contributing
to the surge. Health experts say the delta variant is very contagious and could soon
be the dominant strain circulating worldwide.

Vietnam is suffering from a rising fatality rate as the delta variant of COVID-19
continues to spread. The World Health Organization's main representative in the
country has warned that the upcoming few weeks will be crucial for controlling the
situation.
Despite a lockdown ordered on May 31, Ho Chi Minh City, the country's largest
city in the south, has been trying to contain the infection.
According to Dr. Kidong Park (WHO Representative in Vietnam), Vietnam is
experiencing an increase in the number of cases of norovirus infections. "The next
three weeks will be essential for Vietnam to regain control of the situation." He
stated that there are still clusters and cases with unknown origins of infection, and
that there is a very high danger of community transmission.
