MODULE 4: THE “RIGHTS” AFTER DRUG ADMINISTRATION

CASE ANALYSIS:

It is October 12, 2021. You are the incoming nurse on duty for a 7-3 shift. You were assigned to Ana, a 3-
year-old toddler who was admitted due to an asthmatic attack.

At around 8 am, the doctor came and had rounds. New orders were given, which included an antibiotic:
 Start Clarithromycin 250 mg/5mL, 3 mL PO TID for 5 days

At 9 am, you administer the first dose of oral clarithromycin. Immediately after administration, the patient
vomited. It was non-projectile, non-billous, mostly milk that was previously ingested. You come back
after 20 minutes to give another dose to Ana. However, Ana started to scream and refused to drink the
antibiotic. You attempted to pacify the child, but to no avail. You refer the situation to the doctor.
