Project Title: Law Firm Job Shadowing

SMART Goal I set for this conference:

Check in with the public defender’s office about possible job shadowing, get a big portion of the portfolio
worked on, and witness what goes on in a plea hearing.

Employability skills that I worked on this month and specific ways I have improved. How have you shown
growth with the goals listed above? Do you need to make any adjustments? Which skill has been the hardest
for you to practice and improve? Why?: Some employability skills I have used and worked on since the last
conference would have to be time management and my communication skills. It had recently occurred to me
that I had been feeling stressed out recently due to feeling overwhelmed in my extracurriculars and in my
classes. This was a result of poor time management on my part, so to correct this I got my planner back out
and worked on setting aside time to work on things like senior projects, as well as making time for the things I
enjoy doing, such as basketball and so on. As well as this, I had to work on my communication skills. This was
best shown by reaching out to the public defender formally via email, as well as managing shadowing times
with my mentor.

What I have learned since my last conference: (brief reflection on learning and evidence) Some things I have
learned from my last conference is to space things out that I want to do in the future, instead of just cramming
the night before you have to do something. I have found that when I take time in advance to work on
something, it becomes less stressful and makes the finished product more well-thought out.
SMART Goal I am going to work on for next month: Lock in specific dates with the public defender to job
shadow & obtain an interview with the public defender per the requirements stated in the research paper
portion of the senior project.
