BLUE- VOICE OVER

Hi this is isaiah and welcome to Chem Lab SOUP. In today’s video , I prepared a simple yet fascinating
Chemical reaction experiment that you can try and is commonly found at home. But before that, let’s
define first the meaning of Chemical reaction and how it happen.

Chemical reactions are the processes by which chemicals interact to form new chemicals with
different compositions. Chemical reactions occur when chemical bonds between atoms are formed
or broken. The substances that go into a chemical reaction are called the reactants, and the
substances produced at the end of the reaction are known as the products.

Now that we already gathered knowledge regarding chemical reaction, here’s a simple demonstration
of how it works. In this experiment, we’re going to use three chemicals namely Baking soda or also
known as Sodium Bicarbonate with a chemical equation of NaHCO3,Acetic acid which is commonly
known as Vinegar with a molecular formula of CH3COOH and H2O or also known as water.

First, add 500 grams of baking soda in a steel pan. Second, add 500 ml of vinegar. Leave the mixture
for an hour. After an hour, add 120 ml of water into the pan. Mix it well together until the
chemicals were properly incorporated. After mixing, bring the mixture to a boil and wait until the
mixture become clear. When the mixture is clear enough, transfer it to a glass container and leave it
at room temperature to cool down. (timer animation)

After waiting for the mixture to cool down, place your finger with a little amount of sodium acetate
powder inside the glass container and wait for the reaction to happen.

The solution needs a nucleation site to perform crystallization process which in this case is the
sodium acetate. The reaction produces a high amount of heat because it is exothermic in which the
experiment’s name was derived from; HOT ICE EXPERIMENT.
