WEB BROWSERS
Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
Welcome to the Computer Education 1 (ICT 7) Alternative Delivery Mode
(ADM) Module on Web Pages Design.
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by
educators both from public and private institutions to assist you, the
teacher or facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and economic
constraints in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore,
this also aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while
taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box
in the body of the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use
this module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while
allowing them to manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected
to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the
module.
For the learner:
Welcome to the Computer Education 1 (ICT 7) Alternative Delivery Mode
(ADM) Module on Web Pages Design.
The hand is one of the most symbolized part of the human body. It is
often used to depict skill, action and purpose. Through our hands we may
learn, create and accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource
signifies that you as a learner is capable and empowered to successfully
achieve the relevant competencies and skills at your own pace and time.
Your academic success lies in your own hands!

3
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and
time. You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning resource
while being an active learner.

The following are some reminders in using this module:

1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any
part of the module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the
exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer What I Know before moving on to the other
activities included in the module.
3. Read the instruction carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your
answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through
with it.

What is It
TYPES OF WEB BROWSER

Web Browsers are software installed on your Personal Computer. To

access the Web, you need a web browser, such as Netscape Navigator,
Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox etc.

1. Internet Explorer (IE)

It is a product from software giant Microsoft that is the most

commonly used browser in the universe. This was introduced in 1995 along
with Windows 95 launch and it has passed Netscape popularity in 1998.

Currently, internet explorer is discontinued by Microsoft. Internet

Explorer was one of the most widely used web browsers, attaining a peak of
about 95% usage share during 2002 and 2003. Now it holds less than 16%
share in worldwide desktop browser usage.

Lesson TYPES OF WEB PAGES AND

2 WEB SITES

What is It
WORLD WIDE WEB (WWW)

It is a powerful tool for communicating ideas, facts and opinions throughout the world.
WWW is an open source information space where documents and other web resources are
identified by Uniform Resource Locator (URL), interlinked by hypertext links, and can be
accessed via the internet. It is simply known as the Web. The World Wide Web was central to the
development of the Information Age and is the primary tool for billions of people to interact over
the internet.

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE SINGLE INTERFACE FOR ACCESSING THE PROTOCOLS THAT
ARE PROVIDED BY THE WORLD WIDE WEB:

1. E-mail (Simple Mail Transport Protocol or SMPT)

This is the protocol used for sending e-mail over the Internet. Your e-mail client (such as
Outlook, Eudora, or Mac OS X Mail) uses SMTP to send a message to the mail server, and the
mail server uses SMTP to relay that message to the correct receiving mail server.

https://www.educba.com/smtp-protocol/
2. FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
It is a standard communication protocol used for the transfer of computer files from a server
to a client on a computer network.

11
https://cyberhoot.com/cybrary/file-transfer-protocol-ftp/

3. Usenet (Network News Transfer Protocol or NNTP)

It is an application protocol used for transporting Usenet news articles (netnews) between
news servers, and for reading/posting articles by the end user client applications.

https://ccnatutorials.in/application-layer-of-tcp-ip/nntp-network-news-transfer-protocol/

4. HTTP (HyperText transfer Protocol)

It is an application layer protocol for distributed, collaborative, hypermedia information
systems and it is the foundation of data communication for the World Wide Web, where
hypertext documents include hyperlinks to other resources that the user can easily access, for
example by a mouse click or by tapping the screen in a web browser.

https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Hypertext_Transfer_Protocol

5. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol)

It is a technology that allows you to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection
instead of a regular (or analog) phone line.

12
HYPERTEXT & HYPERLINK

Hyper Text is a document containing words that connect to other documents. Rather
than remaining static like traditional text, hypertext makes possible a dynamic organization of
information through links and connections (called hyperlinks). Hyperlink is a reference to data
that the reader can directly follow by clicking or by hovering.

https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/hyperlink-vs-hypertext/

WEBSITE
It is a set of related web pages typically served from a single web domain. A website is a
collection of Web pages, images, videos or other digital assets that is hosted on one or more web
servers, usually accessible via the internet. The pages of a website can usually be accessed from
a common root URL called the homepage and usually reside on the same physical server. The
URLs of the pages organize them into a hierarchy, although the hyperlinks between them
control how the reader perceives the overall structure and how the traffic flows between the
different parts of the site.

WEB PAGE

A web page is a resource of information that is suitable for the World Wide Web and can be
accessed through a web browser. This information is usually in HTML or XHTML format and
may provide navigation to other web pages via hypertext links.
Web Pages may be retrieved from a local computer or from a remote web server. The web
server may restrict access only to a private network, e.g. a corporate intranet or it may publish
pages on the World Wide Web.
Web pages are requested and served from web servers using Hypertext Transfer Protocol
(HTTP). Web pages may consist of files of static text stored within the web server’s file system
(static web pages) or the web server may construct the HTML for each web pages when it is
requested by a browser (dynamic web pages). Client-side scripting can make web pages more
responsive to user input once in the client browser.

TYPES OF WEB SITES

https://www.slideshare.net/ZeeshanAlam/www-website-webpage

WEB SITE CLASSIFICATION ACCORDING TO STYLE

• Static Website
It is one that has web pages stored on the server in the same form as
the user will view them. It is primarily coded in HTML and it simply
presents pre-defined information to the user.
It may include information about a company and its products and
services via text, photos, Flash animation, audio/video. This type of website
usually displays the same information to all visitors, thus the information is
static.

14
• Dynamic Website
It is one that does not have web pages stored on the server in the
same form as the user will view them. Instead, the web page content
changes automatically and/or frequently based on certain criteria. It
generally collates information on the hope each time a page is requested.
A website can be dynamic in one of two ways. The first is that the web
page code is constructed dynamically, piece by piece. The second is that the
web page content displayed varies based on certain criteria.

https://www.code-brew.com/blog/2019/11/30/3-reasons-why-you-need-a-dynamic-website/

WEB SITE CLASSIFICATION ACCORDING TO FUNCTION

1. Personal Website- This type of website is meant for personal purpose
that might include some family photos & personal diaries. This is useful for
family members to stay in touch with each other.
2. Commercial Website- Commercial websites are meant for commercial
